The Calm Before The Storm 17 Oct, 2002 / Comments: 29

There seem to be a lot of slow days, but none are more slow than Thursdays. The day before LucasArts graces us with new screenshots from Gladius and the like, we usually just sit around. Recently, downtime notwithstanding, we've been trying to make threads like "we're bored, what's going on with you?" asking about community news we may have missed, or just something entertaining to reduce my boredom at work.

Well, it's Thursday again. Anyone with anything interesting, fun, stupid, what have you, please leave a comment so everyone else can have something to do. Would be nice if it was LucasArts related, but it doesn't really matter.

For instance, me, I'm very sleepy. Now its your turn.

I'm giving up sleep, and instead focusing on listening to Trapezoid's I know your name. It's so much like what happened to me last week.

Marek pointed me to this really interesting if a bit silly article on the pre-production of Curse of Monkey Island. Another long read, but it has some interesting parts.

I just downloaded the Night of the Hermit? fan game and now im downloading the unofficial VGA remake of Kings Quest?.(its taking fucking ages) Apologies to all you people who thought I was through with mentioning something Sierra? related but I just thought i'd let you know what I was doing (besides, Kings Quest? was like the Monkey Island? of its time. It sold lots of copies, it was very popular, etc etc. However, Monkey Island? had more humor and the puzzles werent based on fairy tales either. And lots of Kings Quest? fans think that either Kings Quest 3 or 4 is the best of the series.)

Now i'll shut up about Sierra? ("its about time too" I hear you say.) and give you an interesting website.

This site is full of funny videos (well duh). Check out the ones called "Star Wars Episode XII" and "Christmas Lightsabre". You'll like it.

I'm doing Work Experience at Virgin Megastores in Portsmouth. It's pretty sweet considering what I should be doing and I get to listen to music all day. The girl I know who's working in Thornton's has got it better though. I've also edited this post 3 times now which is kind of a record. It's all because I tried to do the ? ? thing but the two "?"s kept going on different lines no matter what I do.

I just found this: Amiga box for Monkey Island, and is says 'Ron Gilbert' on it with large letters. I dont know if his name is shown like that on the other boxes. Any way, kinda neat. :)

    Image from the ExoticA site.

Parts of that look pretty photoshopped.
  • bgbennyboy on 17 Oct, 2002, 12:41…
Yeah thats the amiga box allright but im pretty sure that 'Ron Gilbert' wasnt on there like that
  • Remi O on 17 Oct, 2002, 10:39…
Kind of strange. The PC box looks like this. Oh, and all the poor Sega owners got was this.

I think I will sit down and spank my monkey... I'm talking about Black and White, OF COURSELY... Is there a way to teach my ape not to eat people while I'm doing something else somewhere else?
  • matt on 18 Oct, 2002, 01:08…
Well, I bought that game and played it for some days and then i lend it to a friend who still plays it today - BUT i know an answer for you ... simply give him some cute human fellow (maybe a kid from the kindergarten) and he'll eat him/her and THEN ... BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF HIM! that'll teach him a lesson - the same thing works with his own poo - you should teach him to place it onto the fields and not onto the kindergarten, because that makes the children sick and screaming ... and when he eats his own excrements he'll get sick too.

... whatever. i have never played it long enough because it's too time-consuming.
  • Gabez on 17 Oct, 2002, 13:41…
    You're playing God? Blasphemy!

  • bgbennyboy on 17 Oct, 2002, 07:40…
Yeah I seem to recall a particulary good intro theme.
  • Bobo Donkey? on 17 Oct, 2002, 07:34…
Yeah I liked that game as well when I played it on my PC (cheesy lyrics though)

I have a whole week off for university 'half-term' cunningly disguised as 'reading-week'.
I plan to read Mojo, that should do it.

I just woke up. I'm looking at porn right now. I've been addicted ever since Tim Schafer sent me those nude ladies. After that I'm going to work.

Sort of silly if you don't like reading or aren't a fiend, but anyone who hasn't at least glanced at this article on LucasArts's very old project, Habitat is seriously missing out. It predates most any massively-multiplayer game by years and years and still managed to run on home computers.
