Star Wars Battlefront 3 developer shuts shop 20 Dec, 2008 / Comments: 7

Free Radical design who had a game in development for LucasArts have shut up shop, partially due to the deal with LucasArts falling through.

The game rumoured to be in development was Star Wars Battlefront 3. More details are available at most gaming sites, such as gamesindustry.biz.

Tingler Update: It is now rumoured that Alien Vs Predator developer & 2000AD owner Rebellion is making the game instead. As Jason reminded me, they also made the well-received PSP Battlefront game, so this is very possible.

    Yeah, if any of this Free Radical closure business is true then it's a pretty major bummer. I've spent a lot of time with every incarnation of the Timesplitters series, and still enjoy a game of Future Perfect every few months. I was really looking forward to the fourth.

    Here's to hoping. The Timesplitters series is one of the perennially great "cult" franchises to grace the market over the last decade; I had pretty high hopes for seeing what Doak and company would do with the Battlefront franchise.

    Tingler, it's probably worth mentioning that Rebellion is the developer of the Battlefront PSP game.

    Eh, I'm sure fans can feel safe that a Battlefront III will come out sooner or later.

    Rumours are that it's been given to the company that made the Handheld Battlefront game.

    Ah, read that soon after. So is the studio closing because LucasArts pulled the deal, or is it the other way around?

    It'll be far more to do with the failure of Haze than anything to do with LucasArts I imagine. Also it seems from this that the studio isn't closing after all:
