Rumoured Star Wars MMO confirmed 18 Jul, 2008 / Comments: 9

It sure seems like the long rumoured EA/Bioware / LucasArtrs MMO set in the "Old Republic" has been confirmed.
...EA CEO John Riccitiello has confirmed that the Bioware MMO is tied to Knights of the Old Republic and hinted towards a stronger involvement with Lucasfilm.

Speaking to Portfolio.com, Riccitiello proclaims, "We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development."

"And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about, in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."

When pressed for clarification as to whether this referred to a Knights of the Old Republic MMO, Riccitiello answered, "Yes."

So, there you go.

Agreed. I was really hoping the new KOTOR game would be a proper new game.

Yeah, boo. Would much prefer KotoR III.

At least he was honest about it! Although I bet LucasArts and Bioware are a bit steamed that EA, who basically have nothing to do with the game, are the ones breaking the big secret.

    EA owns BioWare.

Good news, anyway. I don't care about MMOs, but the chances of Obsidian being in charge of the development of a proper KotOR 3 increased slightly, which is a great thing indeed.

Not the ones making it or publishing it though, are they?

Obsidian are making Alpha Protocol, their first original game which looks frickin' incredible, so I doubt they'll have time to make KOTOR3. And I think they're still pissed about the way LucasArts made them rush KOTOR2. I know I am...

It has been confirmed that Chris Avellone is the lead designer of an unannounced project. Not surprising, since AP will be released next February, and Obsidian must have some plans of what to do next. Chris said they would love to develop KotOR 3, despite the way LucasArts had treated them in the past. Sure, he may be working on something different entirely now, but one can always dream.
