The LucasArts classics line that we reported being released in the UK last December has made its way (with a slight cover-art variation to accomodate the classification labels) to Australia and New Zealand.
The games run straight from the CD, no installation necessary, and run in Win 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. There is a graphics filter applied on the SCUMM games to soften the jaggies.
Titles in this series include;
- Sam & Max Hit the Road
- Full Throttle
- The Dig
- Grim Fandango
- The Curse of Monkey Island
- Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight + Mysteries of the Sith
- Star Wars Episode 1 Racer
NZ based Gaming store GamePlanet is selling them for NZ$15 (US$10.50) and yes, they do ship internationally.
Can someone help me with this. I have a Geforce 7900 series video card.
thats a good website! ive bought stuff from there before..they have all the games! sam and max grim fandango etc for 9.95
For those who are having trouble finding them in Australia:
JB Hi-Fi stock only Curse of Monkey Island, Sam and Max, and Ep 1 Pod Racer
Game Wizard (mine anyway) stocked all of them, as did the Dick Smith Powerhouse.
EB gave me a confused look (but then again, the employees there always have confused looks).
I should be grateful for what I got, but MI1 & 2, and DoTT would have been fantastic as well.
Wish they'd release Secret Weapons over Normandy and Armed & Dangerous at this price point too. A&D is brilliant, and I've never played SWoN.
I'm now playing Full Throttle for the very first time. It's always been too expensive on TradeMe, and I've lost the auctions whenever I've bid on it.
Goodness me it's got kick-ass atmosphere, that soundtrack is just incredible. :)
(And the US got screwed out of: everything. Yay for international shipping.)
And really, I'll happily pay $10 for each (if DotT turns up in this range) rather than feel I'm being ripped off because I didn't get 2 in the one pack.
of course that will be my 4th copy of S&M and my 4th of DotT.
oh and I'm selling them for NZ$21 on TradeMe (NZ's eBay equivalent), but really, you'd be better served buying direct from GamePlanet
Hope I'm wrong though, I love the idea of having these old games play natively in XP without the need for emulators and convoluted setup processes.
