Welcome Back to the Future 09 Jun, 2010 / 20 comments

Hot on the heels of a Jurassic Park announcement, Telltale have just announced yet another game: Back to the Future, based off the popular movie franchise starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.

"I think it's a prime time to reintroduce these properties in the digital world," said Dan Connors, CEO at Telltale Games. "Telltale Games has always set out to be a great storytelling company. We've been honing our chops over the past six years, and we're ready to take on these two iconic properties and continue to advance storytelling in games.

In other words, Telltale is releasing the Nelson Tethers: Puzzle Agent pilot sometime this month, are making a Jurassic Park game, and are making a Back to the Future game. And here I was thinking you were dead, McFly.

You might want to scroll down the page and read all of today's news, by the way, if you haven't already done so. It's been rather eventful.

The funny thing is, these are the two movies I've been wishing for more sequels to since I was a kid. I even started to write a (really bad) script for Jurassic Park 4. I think it had something to do with Alan Grant being picked up by a pterodactyl and flown back to the island.

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot this.

Anyone who is still thinking this is fishy, go and check out the Telltale website. They've got the press release up already.

Uh, I don't think you can get any more reliable than Associated Press.

    Okay, now I'm calling bullsh*t.

I agree, something's fishy about all this. It's this part that has me hmming: "The as-yet-untitled Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and Mac games are set to be released this winter." What, all of them? And all platforms? And why is 'The Associated Press' the only one talking about BTTF, didn't Game Informer find that out too along with JP?

Wow, this is amazing! Back to the Future is excellent material for a Telltale game, it has a lot of potential so I'm very curious how they'll approach this!

    @GozzoMan I second that!

Steve Purcell has posted again the marvelous Edisons painting... http://spudvisionblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/maniac-mansion.html
Does anyone have a good hi-res image of it? It would look awesome in my living room... :)

    Lloyd Bridges

Given that Lloyd Bridges is neither connected to BTTF in any way, nor still alive, I highly doubt it ;-)

Of course you were meant to write Christopher Lloyd.

Like everyone else I'm hoping for, but not expecting, Michael J Fox & Lloyd Bridges to do voice work. If they're not available, there is always the cartoon voices...

I don't think David Kaufman is doing much. And whatever happened to Dan Castellaneta? :-P

    Edit: Next up, apparently... Hoverboards!

I wonder if the size of the game will be at least "1.21" gigabytes and hope they download quicker than 88mbph!

And here I was, commenting on the Jurassic Park-story and saying that the only NBC-related franchise that meant more to me as a kid was Back to the Future. Sometimes it feels like Telltale is creating games just for me.
