Zombies Ate My Neighbours movie planned. Seriously. 04 Feb, 2011 / 5 comments

It's not April 1st, you're not still asleep, and we're not kidding. A movie based on LucasArts SNES classic Zombies Ate My Neighbours is in development.

A script has been written by newcomer John Darko, and is described as "Superbad + Zombieland + Home Alone". It's a coming-of-age comedy, with zombies. And yes, protagonists Zeke and Julie still feature.

While the film's producers are still seeking both finances and the rights from Konami, apparently "things are going well and it's coming together". Wonder if it'll have tentacles in it? Hell, I'd pay just to see the giant baby.

    Melancholick

Though I do agree that this--unfortunately--feels like a warmed-over AM/PM burrito at this point; a grab for an existing (If not obscure) license with the word "zombie" in the title.

I've a feeling that the writer is actually a fan of the game, otherwise there's really no other reason to pursue the license. It's not like it will sell people based on the game association. Apart from us, of course.

    pedantic asshole

"Neighbours?" Really? The name of the game is Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and the words that make up the title of a work are culturally invariant, surely.

Would you prefer I called it "Zombies" then? As it was called in the UK?

I admit though the only reason I used the UK version was because my original source (Empire) used the 'u'.

Otherwise, I would be able to get away with publishing a review of The Colour Purple without finding myself on the receiving end of a suggestion to go piss up a fucking rope.

ARGMFG. I remember playing an emu of this game about eight years ago, and thinking what an awesome John Hughes/"Weird Science"-esque movie it would make.

If you like Shaun and Fuzz, watch the television series Spaced. Probably the best comedy series ever created, made by the same dudes.

Aren't zombies an overplayed concept at this point? Anyways, seems like they're going for a Zombieland-ish movie. I doubt anything will be half as brilliant as "Shaun of the Dead", but good luck to them.

("Hot Fuzz" is just as good. I love how the "tone" of the humour is all over the place, from puns to slapstick.)
