Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, A Pirate's Life For Me! 23 Aug, 2002, 10:36 / 20 comments

FilmForce.com has published a great article about Disney's upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie. The film, which is based on the Disney theme park ride of the same name, served as the main inspiration for Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island series.

Neither LucasArts nor LucasFilm appear to be involved in the movie, but due to the source material, it seems that the film will encompass many of the elements that we love about Monkey Island. This includes dastardly pirates, ship battles, a governor's mansion, and the living dead.

Be sure to read the full article for information on who is in the movie and a long plot description. Thankfully, it seems the elements of time travel have completely been removed from the movie. Let's hope that it still manages to be much better than Country Bears. Arrrrg!

This is great. Now if only someone made a film similar to other adventure games (like a Jay & Silent Bob? film with time travel (like Space Quest 4?) or magic spells from Kings Quest 3 and maybe even some Monkey Island? stuff as well) then i'd be more happy.

Dead men tell no tales. Geoffrey Rush is cool.

Did you see The Country Bears, Andrew?

Nope. I'm still hoping it's better than Country Bears... since that movie had horrible trailers, the majority of critics panned it, and it failed at the box office. I think it has yet to actually brake even financially. Of course the marketing for that movie was pretty bad as well. Hopefully they've learned what not to do for this new movie.

Hrmph... they've abslutely PLASTERED Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure with ads for it (country Bears). It's ridiculous.

A lot of good it did, eh?
  • tabacco on 26 Aug, 2002, 16:00…
Yeah, seriously. The ultimate irony, of course, is that int he movie the bears are on a quest to save country bear hall. Yes what was the most recent attraction removed from Disneyland? You got it, the country bears!

I feel so sorry for Walken. His career is ruined.

I never saw him in any of the trailers. At his request, I'm sure.
