Wallace and Gromit information overload (updated) 06 Mar, 2009 / Comments: 11

The criminally under-appreciated-but-still-hailed Dave Grossman has been interviewed by Videogamer about the upcoming Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures, and it's one hell of an interview. He explains how the control scheme works, how the interactivity between the titular characters and everyone else is structured, how Aardman helped Telltale make the game as authentic as possible, and a window for a release date. Just go read, it's an excellent interview.

Dave has also been listed in IGN's Top 100 Game Creators of All Time, although at a criminal 73rd spot. Baffling. Ron Gilbert too is underappreciated at a measly 81 out of a 100. The top 60 have not yet been revealed, but expect Tim Schafer, to name one potential idol of Mojo obsession.

Update: Tim makes it on number 21. Congratulations to all three.

I never finished the Strong Bad games, and it does not look like I will be picking up this franchise, either.

Sam and Max is their money franchise, I'd assume... why is that on the "back burner" for "lesser" projects?

Strong Bad doubled the Telltale community overnight, pretty much. It's a great game, but not for everyone. But I can't see how Wallace and Gromit doesn't appeal. I mean, it's Wallace and Gromit. Winslydale.

You thing Wallace and Gromit is a 'lesser' franchise than Sam & Max?

    What?

thinK not thinG. Also, isn't Sam & Max season 3 already confirmed?

Well, if it is a stronger franchise, then Telltale really isn't doing anything to make me (an outsider to the series) be interested in it.

I think SnM is a more common name within the realm of adventure gamers, and figured it'd be a higher priority, rather than releasing 2 new series in between each one of the established series.

That's how you create a new series. I dunno, I LOVE Sam and Max, but I also really really liked Strong Bad, and Wallace and Gromit looks like it's going to better than either.

But hey, this is episodic. Why don't you try-out one episode and see if it's for you?

    Yeah, I probably will.

I'm not knocking the new series, I'm just surprised that TellTale has been holding off on SnM 3 for so long. I'm also surprised that so little has come out about this new game, as well.

It seems like they've been working on W&G for a long time..

Nice interview. Four episodes sounds a bit short, but I thought that when they did 5 episodes for Sam & Max instead of 6, but that turned out great.

I blame it on the complexity of handling an extremely-known franchise which is heavy on accurate graphics and animation. Dave says the episodes are beefier than usuale, so I wouldn't worry there.

I hope it doesn't mean they're losing money though. I also hope the episodes are a little longer.
