Wallace and Gromit Demo (update) 20 Mar, 2009 / Comments: 17

Now up.

Also, there are some pretty sweet deals on the Telltale Hub-Chamber if you pre-order the game now...

Update: You can also apparently download another version of the demo, a "a limited edition, GamePro-branded" version exclusively from its site (direct download here).

About the Gamepro-version, it's the same version, only there's a Gamepro-logo at the beginning (before the Telltale and Aardman-ones). They have been doing that with all their download partners, as far as I can tell. No differences in the main game.

    :) Thanks AlfredJ

nice, feels authentic. Can anyone tell me more about the soundtrack? Is it all resampled music from the movies?
I loved the brass piece outside the garden, when talking to the colonel?

The music is all new, composed and arranged by Jared Emerson-Johnson, the same guy who did the music for Bone and Sam & Max. (The main theme of course is by Julian Nott, but the game has an original arrangement/performance by Jared and many musicians.)

What won me over, ultimately, was the tune when you were in the car with Gromit. I've preordered now.

I had to play 800*600 windowed... Perhaps I should get a dedicated graphics card...

I really enjoyed the demo. It sealed the deal for me, I'll be ordering the series shortly.

However there is one gripe that, for me, is not a minor one. During the part where Wallace is trying to get some flowers, I found that the music was too loud and I couldn't hear the voices properly. Unlike other games from TT, there are no options for controling the volumes for music, voices and fx separately so I was stuck unable to hear what was being said :(

Still, the rest of it is rather smashing :)

You're not the only one to point that out...

Ahh, had to drop to 800x600 and lower the graphical setting to get rid of an audio stutter, but even at 'low res' the game looks gorgeous. Only had a very brief look outside, but so far, it's beautiful and the mouse-keyboard interface is great.

Hasn't autodetected my thrustmaster gamepad, but I haven't really had a good play around to see if it's possible.

By the way, the audio quality for voiceovers in Bone, Sam & Max and W & G is dreadful (and I don' mean stuttering sound), but it was fine in Strong Bad. Has anyone else noticed this? I find it really strange.

Yeah, the game uses compressed speech sampled at 8-16 kHz (same as games from the early 1990s) and then the game upsamples it during playback, bringing out the compression artifacts even more. :S

It does indeed sound like that and I'm pretty baffled by it. Well, I guess it is done so that the games take up less space, but I thought that with today's sound compression a decent quality speech would only take a few MB more.

:/ Sam and Max's sound quality was great. I haven't played Bone, so.

    Looks really good.

Wallace is a bit different, not as crazy as in the movies, but somehow I don't mind a slightly different take on the character.

Yeah, I liked it. I agree about Wallace, not just the voice is a bit of, but I guess it's just weird to hear Wallace talk so much. Still, pretty awesome, and I like how alive the world feels, and the different camera angles the new controls allow. First Telltale game I can't play on the highest settings (at least, not without a lot of stuttering), but it still looks great. Yes. Give me more.

Yes, the game looks great, and animates beautifully as always. The team at TTG is really something.

I really enjoyed the demo. Wallace is indeed just a bit off, but the acting is just fine. All the art assets look great! The rendering baked into the textures is really effective. More!

I rather liked it. It's a completely different beast from the other games they've done, but it's quite good. I think Wallace is a little off, but that's OK. By the way, even on minimal specs (my laptop can't handle more), the game looks beautiful.

Great. I thought it was still months away.
