Vampyre Story Interview on AG 10 Jul, 2004, 13:29 / 9 comments

A Vampyre Story, one of the many new adventures under development from ex-LECers, is the subject of a new interview over at Adventure Gamers. Here's a quote from Mike Kirchoff, one of the game's developers:
I founded the company in 2002 and teamed up with a programmer, also from LucasArts, to create a playable proof of concept for the game. We had both enjoyed making adventure games. But with the drop in sales for that genre, it became harder to get assigned to new adventure game projects at LEC. It seemed like the only logical way to be a part of that kind of project again was to create something independently.
A Vampyre Story is a comedy adventure set in the Victorian era, similar in tone to the games of LEC's past. Definitely worth checking out.

I love the artistic style showcased in the screenshots, it reminds me of Curse of Monkey Island. 3D models arent that bad, Runaway was an example of this, and that games 3d models werent even good, imagine if the artists from this company took a shot at it, i bet it would be better. I hope this game gets a publisher, and gets high resolution support! nothing like seeing this amazing art in high rez. This game seems to have the classic look. So did runaway, however runaway didnt pull anything amazing off in the story or characters or dialogue. If this game gets published, has the look and feel of runaway with better looking 3d characters, and actually has humorous enjoyable, replayable story like DOTT and Monkey Islands do, then i think it might jumpstart adventures again.
3D adventures look dated graphics wise, Broken Sword 3 has crappy 3D when compared to 3D in other genres like FPS. This 2D Backdrop Style with 3D characters that fit in is something that looks good for what it is, it looks very good. Its timeless in my opinion. I hope this game goes somewhere and i hope its marketed well if it gets published.

But think of the cool plastic vampyre-bat toenail clippers you'd get with a preorder!

Damn it - this ^ was supposed to be a reply, not a new thread. :(

sounds like a pretty positive interview ... im surprized about the lack of work though. the concept is pretty great, i just hope they can pick up a publisher ... maybe the guys who published Broken Sword 3 would be interested.

Ahh. So all those screenshots are just 'proof of concept' mockups. And the final game's gonna have cell-shaded 3D models... Well, I hope they capture the 2D cartoon feel of the concepts and that exaggerated 2D cartoon style animation isn't totally lost in the translation. :-)

So, anyone care to place odds on LucasArts picking up the publishing deal on this title?
