Over at the Vampyre Story website, there's a new short teaser video showing the 3D model of Mona, the main character, walking and doing some other stuff. It looks really really nice.

Nice cartoony 3D look going on, I dig.

Wow, don't download the Quicktime version, it's over 7 megs instead of under 3, and it's 256-colour.

So are they working on the game without a publisher?

Dare say they're waiting for a publisher / funding before they get into production (I know they hadn't started anything other than pre-prod. at the time of the Bad-Brain split), so right now in all likelihood it's more concepts, screen tests, storyboards & artwork to shop around.

    from this interview

We started off with a 2D engine, but quickly discovered that 2D animation production was too slow and would eat up too much of our budget. Also, games like Syberia and Runaway: A Road Adventure came out and showed that point & click 2D/3D hybrids could work both technically and aesthetically. Plus our animator has a lot of experience in 3D animation and works faster in it. It just made more sense. We will even experiment with a celshaded 2D filter to help the characters blend better with the 2D backgrounds.

    short and sweet.

now, I'm wondering, why making a 3D trailer while the game is 2D all-over?
  • DustCropper on 15 May, 2005, 16:36…
I'm guessing that the characters are going to be in 3D, and that the backgrounds will be in 2D.

    Correct.
