The Original Zak 2 Project? 13 Apr, 2002 / Comments: 20

About a week ago another Zak 2 fan game has shown up online. Except it's not a new one, it's in fact the original one which was hosted on AdventureGamer.com a while back. They've put up a video trailer for the game, but it looks nothing like the excellent 2D cartoon art featured everywhere else on their site. The video is all 3D and live-action actors.

The biggest question that I'd like answered but couldn't figure out is: is there any connection between this Zak II fan game, and the other one hosted at Zak2.org? If anyone knows of any connection (besides them both being Zak McKracken fan sequels. shh.), please leave a comment.

    You know that poster in the Mindbender's sekrit lab? Well after winning the game for about the 5th time, I notest that the poster is a Rescue on Fractalus! (! is part of the title) poster, witch is an old LucasFilm title from 1984. You know, the 1 with Jaggi?

    I don't know, perhaps we had more fun with the game's humor? Or we coult better identify ourselfs with Zak ;-) ?
    But don't be sad: At least zak2project.de and zak2.org have English versions of their websites.

    Yep, it's a cry'in shame. When I came back from WWII, I kicked some Nazi ass and have 5 bullets jamed in my leg for them to get all the Zak stuff!?

    The third Zak fangame by "LucasFan Games" (the only one completed yet) has nothing to do with the two other projects. It was created by one single person (who is not involved in one of the other projects), is German and was originally released three or four weeks ago. LucasFan repaired some bugs, added an alternate ending and changed some minor things then. Now, the downloadable version 1.02 is already the third (and last) version available.
    The game has no own graphics (at least none that I know of). It mainly uses ripped graphics from the 256 color version of Zak McKracken created for the FM Towns (see www.zak256.de for that). This might be the reason for a few common graphics of the two projects.
    btw: I like the Trailer on zak2project.de very much. This will *not* be ingame graphics. The cutscenes in the game are supposed to be a similar comic style than the screenshots on the page.

    There's another zak2 that was made with Adventure Game Studio.. the insane thing is that it has some of the graphics (like "The cydonia region from mars")from zak2.org!!!

    I think the screenshot I saw was from an earlier version of zak2.de but there is that third version I mentioned above.

    Yep, I've seen a lot of Zak 2 at Google.com. I've been trying to get some info about it but strangly enough, all of the sites didn't come up so I thought it was fake.

    There is a german posting in the zak2project-forum asking whether there is any connection between the two projects or if they support eacher other anyhow. The answer (by Clem) was that there is no connection between those two projects but that there is also no rivalry between them. They see each other as two completly different sequals for the game and there can't be anything bad about that.
