That's the second-most consistent publisher I've ever seen! 05 Mar, 2009 / Comments: 11

Some number monkey has generated a list of the "most consistent" publisher based on scores from the horror of the game industry: Metacritic.

The results put one-trick-pony Rockstar at the top with 19 points, followed by Telltale Games with 14 points!

Does anyone else think it's really fucked up that a publisher gets "-2 points for anything scoring a Metacritic average of 59 or below".

A score of 59% should indicate an above average game. Gah! I hate game reviewers!

We hate you too, git. :P

I'd say the 50s are 'average', with 59% just about to break out of average.

Still, there's nothing particularly wrong with 'just average', and getting -2 for just a simple fun game is stupid.

Many reviewers use only 5-10 on the 1-10 scale, don't they? Scoring is pretty shit anyway. Except if you use skulls.

Depends on whether they get rubbish games. Anything below 5/10 doesn't even rate any enjoyment at all. Art of Murder: FBI Confidential for example.

Skulls are just great though. Luckily we don't see many low-skull reviews.

It is. Also I kinda wish that more reviewers understand that episodic is not a bad thing, and neither is "short". Eurogamer, I'm looking at you and your 6/10 for Chariots of the Dogs.

Still, second to only Rockstar is a great thing.

As Metallus once said, "That's the second-most consistent publisher I've ever seen!"

Ah, the headline that could've been.
  • The Tingler on 06 Mar, 2009, 14:33…
I see the suggestion's been taken!

The GI.biz article is linked in the source, 'Peel.

Here's a TTG Blog post talking about it, though.
