Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands to be told again 11 Feb, 2021 / 9 comments

Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands is back in action in next week for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, after being piled in rubble when the company collapsed in September 2018.

The game is set between Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3, but is purportedly accessible to anyone who's not played them. Gameplay-wise, it follows the template set by The Walking Dead.

My entire knowledge of the series comes from The Campo Santo Quarterly Concern, which published an oral history of the game. Did you know that the series sold so poorly that Telltale almost binned it halfway through? It only survived because its developers fought studio heads for it; a skeleton crew volunteered to stay after-hours to see the game to the finish line. Makes you wonder who stuck that "popular" in Polygon's subheading.

Although the writing was good there was no “game” in this game, you literally press like 3 buttons and sit there watching the entire story, never have to think and are never immersed in it. They pretty much dropped anything to with adventure games or problem solving by this point.

Also, Jennifer, is it true that the BTTF game on PC never got updated to include Tom Wilson's voice? I just bought an Xbox 30th anniversary edition on eBay so I could hear his voice work that way.

Yeah, unfortunately, neither the Windows and the macOS versions, nor the iOS, PS3, and Wii versions, ever received an update with Tom Wilson's voiceover. This is a shame since the best part of the 30th Anniversary Edition is Tom Wilson's Biff.

The 30th Anniversary Edition was only released on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

It seems as though "Tales from the Borderlands" has also been given some content ratings for a pending Nintendo Switch release.

And it's been announced in today's Nintendo Direct as well. Here's hoping for more TTG titles on Switch! (except for TOMI, which I want remastered by Skunkape Games first).

Tales from the Borderlands 2 was never announced to be in development, even by the original Telltale...

I didn't think so either but there was this article last year alluding to possibly a redux version and a sequel being teased (but I know things can change rapidly in games in development).

Are the sequels to Tales From Borderlands and Wolf Among Us still in the works??

Tales from the Borderlands 2 was never announced to be in development, even by the original Telltale.

The Wolf Among Us 2 is currently in development by LCG Entertainment/Telltale and AdHoc Studio (a studio formed by former Telltale staff).

Really bummed to read that it did so poorly, as it is probably my favorite TT game along with 1st season of TWD. Also, much respect to all involved who pushed on, after the execs lost the faith in it and wanted to can it.

One of TTG’s best and possibly funniest games.
