Telltale to develop CSI: Deadly Intent for Ubisoft 13 Jul, 2009, 23:29 / 6 comments

After sitting out a round with the latest release (a poorly received game based on the TV show's NY spinoff), Telltale will be developing a new CSI game for Ubisoft with the original Las Vegas cast once again - CSI: Deadly Intent. Ubisoft has a product page for the game which lists the Wii and Nintendo DS as platforms; the write-up by Adventure Gamers states that there will be a PC version as well. The publisher lists a date of October 20th for the title.

A formal announcement is unlikely to be far behind. It'll be interesting to note if Telltale is behind that DS port, as it would be the company's first foray on that platform.

Update: My bad. AG states that Other Ocean Interactive is developing the DS version.

    Yawn.
    Never got into these.

I dare say they're a nice little moneyspinner for Telltale, so their existence probably helps subsidise their other adventures somewhat.

But yes, there's no appeal in playing if you're not a fan of the show.

It's also quite likely that Ubisoft are rather more discerning about graphics than the average adventure game fan, which leads to innovations in the Telltale Tool that we can all benefit from. I got the impression that that's what happened with the first CSI game when Telltale were relatively in their infancy, anyway!

While not underestimating CSI viewers (I'm a casual one), I never thought of them as being "hardcore" gamers.

While I'm sure the ubisoft deal does indeed allow for new developments of features in the Telltale Tool, Im not sure graphical improvements are a huge spinoff from this licence.

After all nobody buys a Wii simply for its graphical abilities.

I also got the impression that the average CSI gamer is not too interested in graphics. I'd imagine you'll get a lot of middle aged CSI fans playing on middle aged computers.

Anyhoo, as someone who's never really been into CSI I did enjoy Hard Evidence. I'll defo be picking this one up.
