Telltale loses King's Quest license, probably releases a sigh of relief 02 Apr, 2013 / 3 comments

Something along those lines, at least.

Shacknews brings word Activision now wants to reboot King's Quest all by themselves.

Shacknews

"I talked to the guys at Activision and they were like, 'No, we're pulling it because we're going to do it ourselves,'" Trowe said.

We can only hope it'll be as good as Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. Thanks to reader Tom Sweeney for the news.

Update by Jason: Telltale confirms, making it official.

    Yeah, I was bummed out.

I've always liked the Kings Quest games, despite their love of killing you for adventuring. "Guess you wont go in THAT door again! Load or Quit?"

Still hope Activision does something cool with it.

Yeah, this project started to smell of Bone 3 right around the seventh year of no news. It's a shame, I was interested in seeing how Dave Grossman was going to tackle the challenge of a 21st century King's Quest design. Theoretically TMI demonstrated a successful formula for bringing back an old-school adventure IP, but King's Quest feels somehow different, like some of the more archaic design tropes are less divorce-able from the franchise.
