Tales of Monkey Island: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal released! 08 Jul, 2009, 01:56 / 16 comments

Guess what? The first [fifth of a] new Monkey Island game in nine years is now available. Yes available, to download right now from Telltale's web site. The launch was a slightly troubled one that caused unprecedented traffic on Telltale's humble site and saw throngs of rabid fans acting completely nuts. (The most noteworthy moment of it all was best buddy LEC came to Telltale's defense in their twitter feed.)

But such details are boring now, as the game is out, and it is the time for rejoicing. Oh, and for your convenience, on the off chance that The SCUMM Bar's and our own reviews aren't sufficient for you, I've compiled a large (but by no means complete) list of reviews, in no particular order of importance or credibility. The critical response has been quite positive overall:Assuming you're not one of the infinite number of obscure, two-bit bloggers who for some reason was able to get an advance review copy of the game, I suggest you get playing, ye swabs!

Wait a minute, what the hell is LucasNews? We've got a competitor!!

It's probably all about Star Wars.

Hurray! Some technical glitches left me scratching my head, and the movement wheelie thingy took a while to get used to, but overall it was pretty good!

That's pretty weak. Everywhere I looked the sites said it was coming out the same day.

Show me a site that said wiiware and PC coming out the same day? For starters Wiiware games in PAL come out on Fridays, and in NA, what, Mondays?

PC download was always Tuesday 7th (US Pacific Time), so why would you think it would be the same day?

Nintendo controls the release dates of all Wiiware titles.

Easy, slick. I'm basing this off of IGN, and other sites.

Still, Telltale itself has always stated "July 7th for PC, Wiiware soon after."

Fair enough, they obviously heard the PC release date and jumped to conclusions.

You'd think the writers at a Nintendo themed news section would know Wiiware release dates are set and realise something didn't add up with the date they were publishing.

Yeah, no worries. I'm realizing that now. I haven't played my Wii in probably 4 months. I just figured it was all legit, and I prefer playing games on consoles than PCs (don't ask). Seriously, many other sites do mention the Wii as having it come out on the 7th. All in all, I was just hoping to play some Threepwood tonight...

Any reason why this game isn't available yet on the Wii? It was supposed to launch the same day.
  • Jeff on 08 Jul, 2009, 03:17…
Actually I believe they said they would announce the Wii details later, so not sure if anyone knows when it is coming out on there.

Damn it! And just when I no longer have access to my PC!

    First post! :P
