It's out in Aus/NZ. Downloading now.

Also, I'm smacking my head against the wall with the Nintendo Fanboys here:

You made a valiant effort there jp. Your mistake though was to try and use logic and common sense with a bunch of fanboys.

I don't know, obviously Yare wasn't attacking the machine and fanboys are going insane over those statements, but maybe we should admit that going WiiWare (or Wii) with Tales couldn't have been the best choice... :-/

Other than World of Goo, I haven't played a better Wiiware game than ToMI. There are some tech issues (that Telltale are working on), and the game is completely playable.

I don't see the big problem when judging Narwhal against other Wiiware titles.

The biggest problem with Wiiware is the size limit. This means Telltale has to make compromises with the game, even for the pc. The re-used character models were my biggest gripe with the game and we might not have that problem if Telltale didn't have to squeeze the game in such a small size. If they want to make it work better on the Wii, they'll have to cut something and this worries me to no end.

That's why developing for the Wii wasn't the best choice, but maybe they didn't have a choice.

Yeah it pisses me off they are gonna have to cut stuff like dialogue from episode 2 because of wiiwares crappy 40 meG limit.. And I didn't even think episode 1 was that dialogue heavy.. I'm sure they can't have as much stuff within scenes too
  • Will on 01 Aug, 2009, 19:13…
Just for the record, we won't be cutting any dialog for space in ep 2. All of the space gaining stuff I was talking about is entirely back-end. You shouldn't notice anything as a player.

Great, That sure was a load off my mind! I know I'm nitpicking here, but after all, Monkey Island is an important series. Everything's been going great so far so I guess there's really not that much reason to worry.
  • hierohero on 01 Aug, 2009, 22:16…
    Great to hear!
  • hierohero on 31 Jul, 2009, 00:30…
that iphone more powerful than the wii statement sure has caused a shit storm all over the net...
  • hierohero on 31 Jul, 2009, 00:43…
wow is it safe to say telltale miss Emily yet? Just reading some of the comments on various sites this whole thing is pretty damaging to Telltale
  • jp-30 on 31 Jul, 2009, 01:10…
It's a non-story, and the only people who are upset are bed-wetting Nintendo fanboys who feel that any comment about the Wii they disagree with is a personal insult. They're pathetic.

Incidentally, I'm now playing TOMI on my Wii, and it plays and sounds perfectly fine. Certainly one of the greatest games I've seen on Wiiware, and definitely the best 3D one.
  • hierohero on 31 Jul, 2009, 02:54…
its a non story..but its being beat to high heaven..and theres people out there saying they will boycott telltale because of it..crazy
  • Remi O on 31 Jul, 2009, 15:07…
You think they'd actually buy anything from TTG anyway? It's easy to boycott something you never intended to do business with.
  • Haggis on 31 Jul, 2009, 09:29…
Yeah, the problem is that "journalists" are running away with the "story", and posting it all over on the internet (on "respectable" sites, no less). If only Emily was still at Telltale... she would have made it all alright again!
  • SurplusGamer on 31 Jul, 2009, 08:28…
Yes, let's face it, it was a silly thing to say in hindsight. And possibly in foresight.
  • jp-30 on 31 Jul, 2009, 03:55…
    Their loss.
  • jp-30 on 31 Jul, 2009, 22:12…
    Damage control, finally:

    http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/news/2009/07/telltale_games_wii_audience_is_perfect_for_us

Many of the comments still make me want to bash them over the head with an oversized promotional iPhone though.
  • Radogol on 28 Jul, 2009, 15:48…
A TellTale team member, [TTG] Yare, just posted on the forum basically saying "Yeah, the game is broken, but blame Nintendo, because WiiWare has a 40MB limit and Wii is a shitty console anyway." I kid you not.

    Jesus, what a cluster****.
  • Yare on 29 Jul, 2009, 03:14…
You should probably reserve quotation marks for things people actually said.
  • Radogol on 29 Jul, 2009, 12:41…
I apologize, that was irresponsible of me.

  • The_Petrified_Monkey on 29 Jul, 2009, 10:11…
Flamebaiting the forum probably didn't help...

iPhone more powerful than Wii...? In some ways, perhaps, but pushing it a bit don't you think?

But yes, direct quotations are always preferable.
  • Radogol on 28 Jul, 2009, 05:43…
The general consensus on the Telltale forums seems to be that it's absolutely horrible :(
  • The Tingler on 28 Jul, 2009, 08:06…
    Really? In what way?
  • Radogol on 28 Jul, 2009, 08:49…
Absymal sound and terrible framerate. Someone mentioned that her/his laptop is below minimum requirements and the game ran very slowly, so she/he bought it on Wii, but the console version actually ran worse.

Another guy wants his money back.

No one is disproving those claims - forum apologists can only muster a weak "but the script and puzzles are fine".

    I'm depressed and I don't even have a Wii.
  • jp-30 on 31 Jul, 2009, 01:34…
I've downloaded the PAL version and played the first scene (the one reported to have the biggest framerate issues), and it's perfectly fine.
  • SurplusGamer on 31 Jul, 2009, 10:42…
Yes, after reading the whole thread it seems like people were exaggerating the problems horribly at first. No wonder the TT guy was getting frustrated.

Seems the reality is that it's perfectly playable, with slowdowns in a few spots. Hey, even huge 360 titles like Mass Effect had that sort of problem, so I think TTG can be cut some slack.
  • jp-30 on 31 Jul, 2009, 21:20…
It looks like people were expecting Wii disc-based-title graphics/audio/framerate levels, rather than comparing the game to what else is on offer on Wiiware.

That is because 'people' are idiots.
