Stemmle Speaks 06 Jan, 2004, 22:52 / 21 comments

Computer And Video Games has conducted a short interview with Mike Stemmle, director of the latest Sam & Max game. Among the new information are some tidbits about the plot:
The story of Sam & Max: Freelance Police is really six stories, loosely held together by a thrilling ?ber-plot. The individual stories are wide-ranging cases of the Freelance Police, featuring exotic locales (such as a low-rent space station, and a lame-ass neopagan desert bacchanal) and freakish bad guys (like an exceptionally honked-off Miss Congeniality, and a rogue artificial intelligence made out of tortilla chips).
Interesting, no? Read it all here.

Don't be silly! All the posts are by Jake under various pseudonyms trying to make the site seem busy. Possible even THIS post. Hmm... ;)

Well, it's probably because no-one really cares much for yet more Star Wars games, so finally getting some LEC Adventure game news (that doesn't involve a cancellation) has excited everyone! :-D

Can someone please elaborate on the "episodic release plan rumored a while ago"?

If you read samandmax.net back when it was online (shhh) there were some rumors floating around that LucasArts' Sam & Max 2 might possibly be released in a series of episodes (probably downloadable) played one at a time that would eventually reveal a master story.

There were rumors that LEC was considering offering a pay-per-episode or some other subscription type store online where you could download each part of the game as it came out. Asking either Mike Stemmle or Simon Jeffery about the downloadable serial episodes has always yielded a "no comment" or "we're not sure how we'll distribute it yet."

That recent LucasArts Insider "adventure survey" that we posted about a couple weeks ago had a lot of questions about both Sam & Max, and about peoples online purchasing and downloading habits, so while it's fair to consider LucasArts might still be talking about using the pay-download route, my guess is in the end they'll instead just go with the standard full game in a box in stores just like everybody else. The game will just happen to have 6 independent cases to solve that connect in the end.

    Did I elaborate enough?

Must not get my hopes up.
    Must keep hopes down.
Must not experience terrible reenactment of the "Full Throttle 2" and "Escape from Monkey Island" incidents.

I've been playing SW-KOTOR and Urur for a while now and all we can hope for Sam and Max - Freelance Police is control system near the 'keyboard and/or mouse' system they use. However improvment can be made and flexible camera engine should be redesign.
Regarding the content, it seems that LucsArts has retrieved a certain amount of the work done by Infinite Machine a while ago.. does that means that justin Chin is back home ?
Well, I'm freakin' eager to see new screenshots.
  • Marek on 07 Jan, 2004, 15:20…
No Infinite Machine materials were used in the production of this game. Or at least, that's what LucasArts and Steve Purcell are saying. As for what Justin Chin is doing, I think he's still out of the games industry. I can't even find his portfolio site right now...

Medal of Honor expansion pack eh? Ouch. That's a little downhill from owning your own studio and working on your own game. It's nice to see he's still in the industry though.

oh and more details about the content too!
and, gosh! excitment really make my hands shake!

might as well mention, though its obvious, that "six individual stories" sounds suspiciously like the "episodic release" plan rumored a while ago.

Grrrreat! This game is hugely promising. I can't friggin' wait. It sounds like they're gonna thoroughly nail that classic Sam and Max hilarity we all know and love.

    Thank christ, point-n-click
