Star Wars: Battlefront Confirmed 01 Dec, 2003 / Comments: 5

GameSpot has confirrmed the previous reports that an online multiplayer Battlefield 1942-like war game was under development at LucasArts, called "Star Wars: Battlefront." The original rumor said that the game was for PS2 online, but GameSpot's short report seems to imply XBox and PC as well. We'll have more on this as the news shows up.

It's been pointed out in a few places that Star Wars: Battlefront sounds quite a lot like the free, user-created "Galactic Conquest" mod/total-conversion for Battlefield 1942. Should be interesting to see if anything happens with that.

Update: We got word from LucasArts that the game will be developed by Pandemic Studios, makers of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the much-hyped upcoming Full Spectrum Warrior.

I hope Pandemic does a better job with this game than they did with The Clone Wars. That game blew.

Everyone seems to be soiling themselves over Full Spectrum Warrior, and a lot of people liked Battlezone 2, so hopefully Clone Wars was sort of a fuke. I thought Clone Wars was a decent game with potential that just went a little crap somewhere aong the line.

What is "the studio" mentioned by GameSpot? Does that mean it's in-house? It would be a shame if both Republic Commando and Battlefront are being developed by LucasArts itself. They have like five in-house teams if I'm not mistaken, and I'd like to see most of them do non-Star Wars projects.

No you fool! It's being developed by Pandemic.

Wait, am I talking to myself?

I wish if they could come up with some original name, not a rip-off from Battlefield.
