Sam & Max release dates 07 Sep, 2006 / Comments: 12

The release dates for the pilot, which will be called Culture Shock, have been announced. Gametap will officially premiere Sam & Max Season One on October 17, which means that Telltale is rapidly running out of time to cancel it. But the premiere is only relevant to people who are both in North America and are interested in Gametap (not to mention owning the game permanently). For everyone else, the worldwide release date (when the game will be available for purchase on Telltale's site) is November 1, just a two week delay.

Pricing details will be announced soon. Check out Telltale's blog for the first episode's plot outline, download size (~75MB), system requirements, and a pretty damn awesome picture. And don't forget the official press release for your records.

If you still have control of one of your hands at this point, also be sure to catch up on some more Sam & Max PAX previews with Telltale's latest coverage.

So, so close.

I'm skeptical about this game. I get the feeling it's gonna' be decent, perhaps even "good", but the Lucasarts version looked superior, and the voice acting was much, much better.

Still, it may be amazing. I'll wait and see.

Telltale has been doing a better job with every new game they released; I don't know how Sam & Max could break the cycle. And Telltale is (in a sense) the best of LucasArts from the Sam&Max era...

LucasArts is dead, we must support these Telltale guys as much as we can. You'll see that the more financial resources they got (and the more the company gets bigger), the more their games will be better and better.

Yeah, let us buy their crap so that they shall don't understand that we want quality.
That being said, it should be a good game.

I don't think they ever released crap, and I don't think they'll ever do it. Reading your reply to jimmycracker makes me think you already know it.

I'm expecting each episode to improve upon the last. Just due to feedback, voice actors settling into roles, Telltale hitting their stride, etc...

Live Jazz combo on the soundtrack? Fan-effin'-tastic...

Gametap has a free trial period, so you might be able to play it free while waiting for Telltale's release (assuming Gametap isn't blocking the series from free trials). I believe you have to enter your credit card number and they make you cancel the subscription by phone though.

You have to PAY for GameTap?!? That's a dumb idea, why are Telltale supporting these guys?!

And you can't join GameTap if you don't live in the US? That's even dumber.

Looks like I'll be waiting, then. That's two extra weeks! Grr! Tingler Mad!

They chose gametap from other partners for the funding and creative freedom. They probably figured a two week delay for international customers was a necessary evil for being able to make a Sam & Max game that had a sufficient budget and that wasn't a racing game. (It still sucks, of course, but there were reasons.)
