Sam & Max iiiiiiin Spaaaaace! 09 Dec, 2009, 08:55 / 38 comments

Mojoer black_sheep tips us off again. Monkey Island's over, so that must mean... Sam & Max is on its way!

And what's this? Concept Art?

Sam & Max 2010.

Is this a resurrection of Infinite Machine's Sam & Max Plunge Through Space? (Oh, Justin Chin's no longer at Telltale, so probably not).

huh. the concept art kinda looks like that canceled "Sam and Max plunge through space" game. especially weird considering Justin Chin's resume. Infinite Machine was going to be developing the game, from what i recall. oddly enough, Justin Chin's LinkedIn profile says that he is no longer at telltale, and is back with Infinite Machine. Which is odd, seeing as they shut down after the disappointment that was new legends. I smell a conspiracy! maybe they're going back to trying to make that game that they wanted to so many years ago!

It's not based on Sam & Max Plunge Through Space.
  • V_Ben on 11 Dec, 2009, 22:03…
now im even more excited! though im not sure why! aaaah!
  • jp-30 on 11 Dec, 2009, 10:11…
    Thanks for the clarification, Jake.

    Sounds like more evidence of...

    duun duun duun.

Given the chummy relationship the two companies seem to have these days, it would be nice if LEC used Telltale's upcoming push for the new Sam & Max season as an opportunity to make Hit the Road available again.

    ...And what else? Say it!
  • GodzillaX8 on 09 Dec, 2009, 20:02…
I hope they re-record the voices in Hit the Road with the new actors just to make you angry. That would make me happy in all kinds of ways.
  • Bad Asp! on 09 Dec, 2009, 20:05…
I hope the original actors sue the new actors AND rerecord the dialogue from all eleven episodes just to make you angry. That would make ME happy in all kinds of ways.
  • Udvarnoky on 09 Dec, 2009, 20:11…
Do you know what suing is and why it happens? Just curious.
  • Bad Asp! on 09 Dec, 2009, 20:14…
    Yes. Do you?
  • SurplusGamer on 10 Dec, 2009, 09:18…
Yes, I'd love to hear the explanation of what you think they can sue for.
  • The Tingler on 10 Dec, 2009, 05:40…
I think they should all sue God for allowing all this to happen in the first place.

  • Icebox on 10 Dec, 2009, 02:59…
I don't honestly think anyone cares about it other than you, at this stage. Then again, Telltale managed to nab Earl Boen, so if they can grab Bill and Nicky, we'll both be most pleased. I mean, I know that I'D be pissed if Manny wasn't voiced by Tony Plana...
  • jp-30 on 10 Dec, 2009, 20:36…
Given a choice, I would much prefer Telltale to continue using the same voice actors as they've used for the past 2 seasons.
  • Icebox on 11 Dec, 2009, 03:55…
Well, yeah, that's the logical thing to do. But if we're being idealistic, I think the old voice actors make more sense to use and do a better job. I don't know about anybody suing anybody, but Max's new voice IS pretty damn grating. And Sam sounds geriatric now. If Telltale has the budget, I say go for it.
  • Kroms on 11 Dec, 2009, 07:52…
I prefer the new guys. The old guys were pretty good, but that whole take on Sam and Max, that swarthy New York accent, is a different take on the license. This one is different, and what I've grown accustomed to, really. Max's voice can be a little grating when he gets overly excited too many times in a row, but is fine for the most part.
  • jp-30 on 11 Dec, 2009, 10:10…
And the HTR voice actors' wouldn't?

    Rose tinted spectacles?

I really don't think you do.

I think he THINKS he knows.
  • AlfredJ on 09 Dec, 2009, 15:16…
Man, this is epic. Looks like we might be going to ancient egypt and ancient london!
  • Sabre on 11 Dec, 2009, 00:57…
Whatever gives you the idea of going to London? Besides, "ancient" London is nothing more than a field, a small village and a jetty. London's not even 2,000 years old yet.
  • AlfredJ on 11 Dec, 2009, 12:18…
That concept art of Sam looks British, and the 'ancient'-part was me trying to be funny and not doing a very good job!
  • clone2727 on 09 Dec, 2009, 17:13…
And maybe get some Zak McKracken references!
  • black_sheep on 09 Dec, 2009, 09:47…
You can click on different places in the website to unlock concept art with comments from a "narrator". So cool.

The places are hidden near the stars that make up sam and max and other places as well.
  • jp-30 on 09 Dec, 2009, 09:58…
The narrator is very Twilight Zone. Or Plan Nine from Outer Space, perhaps. :p
  • The Tingler on 09 Dec, 2009, 11:31…
I thought it reminded me of the opening to HG Wells' War of the Worlds... particularly the Orson Welles version.
  • Kroms on 09 Dec, 2009, 11:39…
It sounds like a lot of early twentieth century stuff, but the dialogue is a parody of Plan 9 From Outer Space. The opening.
  • black_sheep on 09 Dec, 2009, 10:03…
You're right, he also reminds me of the narrator on the penny arcade games.
  • jp-30 on 09 Dec, 2009, 10:02…
Plan 9, for sure. But it's the same comment every time (the same as when you first enter the minisite, no?)
  • Kroms on 09 Dec, 2009, 12:56…
There's another one if you click on the lower left side (ours) of Max's face. Something about a space gorilla and a bunny with psychic powers.
  • jp-30 on 09 Dec, 2009, 09:45…
    From the "Plunge through Space" link above;

"...Dave Grossman meanwhile, lead designer on episodic Sam & Max, didn't work on the nixed Freelance Police project, but he did do time on what he calls "another, even more unfinished Sam & Max 2 design with Steve after Hit the Road came out." And that game's highlight? "Well, there was a giant spaceship shaped like Max's head!" Sam and Max: we hardly knew ye... "

Check out the concept art gallery!

    :-D

Ryan Jones also seems to be the concept artist on season 3 ! I love his work!

    Loving that "dapper gentleman" Sam!

It immediately made me think of Steve's steampunk Max toy:
