Roy Conrad Passes Away at 61 03 Jul, 2002, 07:41 / 16 comments

Roy Conrad, most well-known (at least in the LEC community) as the voice of Ben from Full Throttle, passed away from cancer at the age of 61, in January.

As a tribute, Tim Schafer at Double Fine Productions has posted a page dedicated to Roy. Our condolences to the Conrad family, and we know the entire community's best wishes are with you.

Update: I just thought I'd include this signed note that Mr. Conrad sent me a long time ago. I, like many others, mailed a card to him after LucasFans posted about his illness, and he quickly sent back this thank you note. You could tell he was a very nice guy. - telarium

    I just finished Full Throttle, less than 20 mins ago! And I LOVED IT! "I ain't putting my lips on that..." is probably the most moving line of dialogue ever heard in a Lucas Arts game - no sarcasm... Full Throttle 2 will feel very different...

    I just love that sequence. Then with the kicking. Gives me warm-and-fuzzies.

    One line that I remember... well, I THINK I remember correctly is "I'll get blood all over your driveway."

    Saddest news in LucasArts gaming history as far as I know. I, among other throttle fans, will miss his voice in FT2. I always played samples of his voice works on my speakers out loud. I also immitated quite the samples at school to pester ignorant fellow students. Especially my brother could immitate him pretty well. But it remains immitation. Roy as we lucasfans know him was a unique voice actor.

    What Full Throttle sequel? Roy WAS Full Throttle. This will just be an imitation.

    A real shame. I remember reading a preview of FT in PC Gamer a looonnngg time ago, he was interviewd and was quite an amusing bloke.

    That's really too bad. He did an amazing job in Full Throttle, and I keep hearing a lot of great things about him.

    Damn it, I was 12 minutes late with the news update. :P

    Oh, and sad news about Roy. :( Throttle sequel won't be the same without him.
