Rodent Death Count: 5! 20 Jul, 2002 / Comments: 39

Just a quick note for those of us currently obsessing over Double Fine.com and their fight against infestation: The site's been updated with some of the usual silliness of course, but they've also added a tally running in the left hand sidebar which I assume is the number of rodents squashed to peanut butter coated bits.

Update (telarium): The rodent death toll is now at five! I repeat, the rodent death toll is at five!

Update (Metallus): Be sure to mouse (OH THE PUN) over each rodent to read a brief cause of death. You might be able to find some more interesting secret fun around the site as well by setting your mouse to "hover" over some of the other images. Watch out for traps!

They should get a cat. Not only do they kill mice and rats and stuff, but they bring their bloody corpses to you and purr.
  • DasJan on 25 Jul, 2002, 06:34…
You know what happens to dead cats?
    The go to PURRgatory!
  • Kingzjester on 24 Jul, 2002, 22:58…
HERESY! Tim hates cats ? or at least doesn't approve of them.
  • Shanty on 25 Jul, 2002, 03:58…
I just thought he didn't endorse it.
  • Kingzjester on 25 Jul, 2002, 08:04…
Calavera hates cats... so what if I made a leap of fate there, claiming that the creator and the creation have the same character traits?! God made Adam in his image, no? So by clean analogy.......
  • Marek on 24 Jul, 2002, 08:37…
    HE KILLED A BABY!!!
  • Shanty on 24 Jul, 2002, 10:23…
But would you rather have the little tyke sitting all alone waiting for his mommy to come home... Just sitting there... Pining away... Eventually starving to death, cursing the cruel fates that seperated them...
  • twifkak on 24 Jul, 2002, 06:23…
    HEY TIM! RAT ADVICE!
hehe... I heard some people have had a lot of success by dropping some peanut butter in a bucket of water. The rat's'll be stupid enough to hop in, and bad swimmers enough not to be able to hop out. This way they can increase the killing rate, and more death means more stupid quips! (boy, this is sounding like an FPS)

Of course, if the plan fails, they're left with a very wet and peanut buttery floor.
  • Shanty on 24 Jul, 2002, 04:14…
Aw, lookit the poor little number seven. I'm thinking his mother is ALREADY DEAD, which is sad, because the little bugger spent his last days wondering when his mummy was coming back to the hole with that delicious batch of PB she promised him, but now at least he is reunited with his mother in that great Double Fine kitchen in the sky. Excuse me, I... I have something in my eye...
  • DasJan on 23 Jul, 2002, 02:13…
    SIX! SIX! SIX!
  • mxbx on 23 Jul, 2002, 06:19…
Yeah, I noticed that one. Although I don't think a rat would have an easy time w/ the XBox controller. Mayhap his final thoughts were actually those of a human, with the rat simply channeling said human at the last moment of his life??

On a related note, I now cannot eat peanut butter without weeping uncontrollably.
  • twifkak on 23 Jul, 2002, 10:47…
Maybe they actually killed a human with the rat trap, who, realizing how he had died, Kafkaesquely turned into a rat.

I'm sorry about that peanut butter thing. It's not Tim's fault, though. No self-respecting rat would find peanut butter and cheese desirable--these are some evil, self-loathing rats, and they are to blame.
  • DasJan on 22 Jul, 2002, 10:49…
I like you too, mxbx. (Now I am with the "people who post more than one comment on Double Fine updates" :)
  • twifkak on 22 Jul, 2002, 12:57…
We should start a Double Fine comment-posting ladder. For every Double Fine news item, wait a week or so (until comment posting is over) and then have some 3rd-partiers vote on the people that posted on that news item. We'll keep a running ranking of who's the biggest Double Fine fanboy/i, and use a complicated scoring system that nobody understands, so that I can cheat without anyone noticing.
  • DasJan on 23 Jul, 2002, 02:12…
A complicated scoring system that nobody understands?? You stole that concept from "Tutti Frutti"! Does anybody here know "Tutti Frutti"? Chin Chin!
  • matt on 23 Jul, 2002, 15:34…
What the ??$ ... you are talkin about the german "Tutti Frutti"? Man, I think the wonderful expression "Tutti Frutti" was really destroyed for some generations in germany by this show... :) ouch

back then the show was dirty ... today you see popups on yahoo.com that are dirtier :)
  • mxbx on 23 Jul, 2002, 06:31…
Your love for Little Richard is peculiar, DasJan. Extremely peculiar.
  • mxbx on 22 Jul, 2002, 20:27…
Twifkak: Your ideas are as perfect as your typing voice. We shall start this comment-posting ladder in preparation for our as-yet to be planned Double Fine fan-site. I'll start the planning here by suggesting the name: DoubleShrine. What say you, Twifkak? What say you?
  • Kingzjester on 23 Jul, 2002, 16:21…
See: better think about a Tim Schafer religion name, than just a name for a meagar "fan-site" there are too many fan sites, there are no religions out there...

BTW, I hold all the (C)s TMs and (R)s and the like over this idea -- it's MINE, ALL MINE! BWAHAHAHAHHAAA....

    HAHAHHAHA...

    HA..

Everyone else: Move along, move along ??.
  • twifkak on 23 Jul, 2002, 06:16…
Gah!!! ?? Secret messages! Secret code words! Rodent #6! I'm too lazy to write a CGI script and the exclamation points are hurting but I can't stop typing them so the only way to combat it is to create a sentence that never ends but I can't do that because I'm not that creative (well, okay, I probably am) and I tire quickly, as is the case now! *Zzzz...*

Hey, I just had to drive for 1.5 hr in mighty heavy traffic. I think all the fumes got to me.
  • mxbx on 23 Jul, 2002, 06:28…
Your tale of a 1.5 hour jaunt is a sad one indeed, friend. And fumes? Gawsh! I would never find the courage to embark on such a journey.
  • twifkak on 23 Jul, 2002, 10:38…
I do it for the love of it, my man.... Oh wait, no! I do it for the money.
  • mxbx on 21 Jul, 2002, 19:02…
I like the people that post comments here. DasJan, I like you. Mad Lord Snapcase, I like you and I have friends who like the band Snapcase. Marek, I like you. Metallus, I like you. Twifkak, I like you.
Each and every one of you holds a special place in my heart. I call it the "people who post comments about Double Fine updates" place, and it's somewhere near that one tube (y'know the one I'm talking about.) So anyway, I like you guys and I like Double Fine Entertainments. But for some reason I can't find my appendix.
  • twifkak on 22 Jul, 2002, 05:36…
OK, I'm all peanut-buttered up. Now what?
  • Metallus on 21 Jul, 2002, 14:23…
    5!

  • Mad Lord Snapcase on 21 Jul, 2002, 10:24…
    I love the final thoughts.
  • DasJan on 21 Jul, 2002, 02:06…
If the game will only to be half as brilliant as the web site, I'll buy an XBox!
  • ZeroXcape on 22 Jul, 2002, 16:55…
I really don't know what to do about this. I've talked to many people in the same situation. A great game like psychonauts, and no console to play it. I obviously bought a cube over a xbox... but alas, no psychonauts.

This is the second game that I'd buy an xbox for... and the other happens to be PAL.

I'm sure the month psychonauts comes out, Microsoft will see a lot of buy and returns. Such a shitty console, such a great game.

(psst... tim: have a secret "works on PC by accident" feature or something. we won't tell...honest.)
  • Remi O on 22 Jul, 2002, 19:57…
Exactely why is the Xbox "shitty"? Is it the built-in hard-drive? The network card? The fact that it can be expanded to play DVDs?
  • ZeroXcape on 23 Jul, 2002, 08:06…
oooh!! I want my console to play movies and hold lots of information!

wait... no I don't, I want fun games and original titles. i.e. psychonauts will be one of the few.
  • Remi O on 23 Jul, 2002, 08:36…
A valid argument would be something like "Xbox is not for me, because I don't like the game selection". Saying that the Xbox is "shitty" just because it isn't for you is silly.
  • matt on 23 Jul, 2002, 01:59…
... why he (and me, too) doesn't like the x-box is obvious. It's Microsoft. The Devil himself came into our beloved console-happiness garden where honorable quality-companies made cool consoles and games ... NINTENDO, the (console techincally late) SEGA, SONY ... well and then comes BILL GATES and pisses in our garden pond (nice picture :) ). And all Ex-anti-console-pro-pc guys come and laugh and applaud and buy X-Boxes. And like it always was in the world of PC they start chant the technical data of their new system: of the x-box ... each number and data higher and better than those of the native consoles. And they can't understand. The devil made a console. But god doesn't hate the devil (he loves everyone) and gives him Psychonauts. And we are confused. It's hard to forgive for us humans.
  • twifkak on 23 Jul, 2002, 06:06…
Thanks for the helpful tip. I've gotta go burn my PC now, 'cause I'm running Windows on it (to play all those games I own).
  • matt on 23 Jul, 2002, 09:33…
... me too, but if you really hate the devil you'd really have to do that... i won't do it, because i want to play my games via windows. excuse: god gave him psychonauts and i accept his presence on my PC... but don't ever forget that he's in there - watching you - or you are lost.

BTW if the devil gave me enough money i'd sell him my soul ...
  • twifkak on 23 Jul, 2002, 10:50…
Err, yes, possibly. Whatever, I'll just wait until I absolutely HAVE to buy the xbox (Psychonauts) and then buy it. I'll worry about the PS2 when it's cheaper (Ico, Frequency). Meanwhile, I'll prepare to feel bad about spending roughly $500 on three games.
  • matt on 23 Jul, 2002, 15:27…
yep - i want to buy one too when psychonauts is released... first i thougt it's insane. Now i think it's insane to see Psychonauts standing around in the stores someday and ignore it and wait for a port to some other console or PC. No way.

My bro has a PS2 and *wow* they really have some cool games there. Devil May Cry. MGS2. I have my Cube and wait for Resident Evil (Europe release) and StarFox and Zelda and ... HELL what did our grandparents do when they were young? :) ... no waiting for games to be realeased. No new consoles coming up... no screenshot analyzing :)
