Unlikely as it seems, this time the rumours were true. Lucasarts has announced Monkey Island remastered for Xbox Live and PC.
Even more exciting though is the button on the bottom right of the page 'Telltale continues the adventure'. It looks like the other rumours were true and Telltale's new game is...Monkey Island. Telltale's site is down right now, so expect confirmation and updates in a bit.
Update by Remi: Some more info on the remake: will be this summer, with updated graphics, re-recorded music, and voice overs. (Although you can also play the original version, and seamlessly swap versions during gameplay.)
There are some videos and screenshots on the official web site, and apparently some old names are involved, including Dominic Armato as the voice of Guybrush.
More news will probably be updated here as we get it. For now check out the official site.
Tales of Monkey Island: Telltale will apparently be behind the brand spanking new Monkey Island series: Tales of Monkey Island, which will be released for the Wii and PC. Sorry, I think I just peed my pants.
Also, there's brand new TMI trailer. And Ron Gilbert has posted his thoughts on the original SMI, and has revealed he was involved in the brainstorming. Oh, and Dominic Armato is doing the voice. Grab a behind-the-scenes look!

eh eh hi there guys, so i'm back too...
Long time ago?
On a more ironic note. On 31 may I migrated to linux... So now I gotta reinstall windows to be able to play MI ^^
i, like all of you, have been waiting for this for years, and now that it's happening, i couldn't be happier. i can't think of a better team currently in existence than telltale to put this together, and it looks great. they're doing everything right: bringing back dominic and michael land, bringing in gilbert to consult for ideas. i don't see how it could be anything but eighteen shades of awesome.
and the special edition of SOMI looks great, too. i can't fathom the number of times i've imposed dominic's voice over guybrush's lines in my head while playing the original, and now i'm going to get the real thing! thank you lucasarts, for no longer being douchebags.
if these sell well enough, i can only hope that it will spark a second golden age of lucasarts adventure games, though telltale has already begun that trend to some extent. and i'm thrilled that they may be giving the "special edition" treatment to some of their other franchises, as well.
i'm really surprised that they were able to keep all of this under wraps for so long, and that nothing was leaked or really even hinted at! with so many adamant monkey island fans out there, you'd think somebody would've been able to figure out that something was going on! but no! they're able to tell us all about it on their own terms, when they're ready, and not a minute earlier. only a month to wait!!
just... fantastic. i can't wait. kudos, telltale and lucasarts.
And how is it bad that the SE doesn't look that different from the original? This is surely a good thing.
Also, I was worried about the SE graphics too, until I sought out some high-res screenshots. I can't remember where I saw them, but look for some high-res shots of this because the videos really don't do it justice at all.
And yeah, not worried about SE graphics...I didn't explain very well posting at almost 5 am and feeling quite tired.
SE: The-art-is-pretty-awful-no-offense-to-the-no-doubt-fine-artists-at-LA-but-looks-cool
TMI: Nervous-and-the-trailer-didn't-quite-sell-me-but-too-many-things-are-working-toward-it-for-it-not-to-be-awesome and MICHAEL LAND?!
GENERAL: Pretty-cool-shit-going-on-here-though-I-can't-say-I'm-all-that-excited-about-some-of-it; though-I'm-sure-TMI-will-be-great.
I've downloaded the high-res screenshots of the Special Edition™, and I have to admit, my opinion of the art has gone from "pretty awful" to "staggeringly inept and horrible". I can't believe how awful, clueless and frankly half-assed some of these background paintings are, and most of the character sprites are just amateur in terms of construction, hierarchy and balance. See the screenshot of Captain Smirk's cabin for an example of all of the above.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we've all seen much worse, but SMI deserves much, much, much, much, much better.
Anyway, thanks to the recent news, that will hopefully change!

Murray? Please?!?
And then... I suddenly became a man.
I hope they don't edit down to many of these things.
Loom: Special Edition
I wonder what the costumes will look like in the costume shop in the remake of part 2...
(Aren't I the optimist.)
After hearing such news, my heart is joyful. Suddenly, it dawns on us. Everything will be O.K.
And again - yay.
Not one, but two MI games.
Must be one cold day in hell.
The Special Edition... not so much. Is that painting better than the Purcell version? Not even close. The eyebrow 'tude on Guybrush? Give me a break.
Everyone is happy!
All I've been doing now is dancing and singing and watching movies and reading interviews over and over...
BUT I LOVE IT!
By the way, it seems that the year 2015 came early. By Jim Ward's logic, of course.
And do I hear Rob Paulsen as the voice of Bob in this video?
Oh and also, fucking Monkey Island 5 was just announced. Definitely didn't see that coming at all. I'm not sure what there is to say other than: wow, awesome, etc. There's something mindblowing about going to lucasarts.com and seeing Monkey Island on the front page. LEC has to be given huge credit here, even if their endeavor is low-risk (I'm guessing they just licensed MI to Telltale?) Who would have thought that Mojo would actually be making a news post about a new Monkey Island game?
(Sorry about that... I had to lie, but I didn't enjoy it!)

ILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOVEYOUILOVEYOU
Basically imagine the whole page like that
Oh, and i guess Lucasarts too :P
I may or may not have cried tears of joy today :D
Best E3 EVAR!!!!!111!!!
Let this be the first in a long line of Spec. Eds.

I hope that LEC put some real money into this. As much as I'm excited, I would prefer to have new environments in every episode.
Oh god.
Dear God. Dear. God.
I think I need to relive iMuse Island ;)
(only quibble Guybrushs hair looks rather silly in remake)
Looks good and yes for PC. But I like the FM-Towns version. I don´t like to improve an old game.
But hey, the way Telltale has interpreted Monkey Island style is awesome! So, I try to forget SE and look straight forward to Tales of Monkey Island! I didn't believe it. No I know it :D
I only want to say that only in the english version they say Nazi.
Unless you cancel it of course, claiming it to be a 'June Fool's Day' gag to rival our own. In which case I will immediately jump on the next plane to Skywalker Ranch and kill all I find.
I am NOT kidding.
I am not kidding.
Excuse me a moment, I need a lie down...
