First of all... I just had a total nerdgasm!

On a more ironic note. On 31 may I migrated to linux... So now I gotta reinstall windows to be able to play MI ^^

I expect wine will run both the revamped SOMI and the new Telltale games just fine.

i don't know if i've ever posted here (i guess i must have, because i have an account somehow), but this is just retardedly exciting.

i, like all of you, have been waiting for this for years, and now that it's happening, i couldn't be happier. i can't think of a better team currently in existence than telltale to put this together, and it looks great. they're doing everything right: bringing back dominic and michael land, bringing in gilbert to consult for ideas. i don't see how it could be anything but eighteen shades of awesome.

and the special edition of SOMI looks great, too. i can't fathom the number of times i've imposed dominic's voice over guybrush's lines in my head while playing the original, and now i'm going to get the real thing! thank you lucasarts, for no longer being douchebags.

if these sell well enough, i can only hope that it will spark a second golden age of lucasarts adventure games, though telltale has already begun that trend to some extent. and i'm thrilled that they may be giving the "special edition" treatment to some of their other franchises, as well.

i'm really surprised that they were able to keep all of this under wraps for so long, and that nothing was leaked or really even hinted at! with so many adamant monkey island fans out there, you'd think somebody would've been able to figure out that something was going on! but no! they're able to tell us all about it on their own terms, when they're ready, and not a minute earlier. only a month to wait!!

just... fantastic. i can't wait. kudos, telltale and lucasarts.

Really do have to applaud them for keeping it so tightly under wraps. If they'd told us about this a year ago at E3 I think lots of us woulda been hesitant to get too excited, been paranoid of cancellation like Sam and Max.

Granted I haven't watched a trailer yet, but I'm surprised everyone is glowing about the look to Tales and hating the SE look. Tales looks too.....shiny 3D, not detailed enough to me. And SE doesn't look THAT different than the original, to me.

I don't think the TMI screenshots are final final. I reckon they'll take the shininess off a bit before release.

And how is it bad that the SE doesn't look that different from the original? This is surely a good thing.

That's actually what I meant about the original. I've heard people complain about the new look already, and I think it looks very similar and looks great!

Two comments about this: Telltale people I've spoken to have confirmed that the 3d graphics are a few levels of polish away from final and the lighting and shaders are on track to be improved by the end.

Also, I was worried about the SE graphics too, until I sought out some high-res screenshots. I can't remember where I saw them, but look for some high-res shots of this because the videos really don't do it justice at all.

Glad to hear that about TMI, graphics didn't look impressive to me this far. Though if it doesn't look that much better, and the humor and gameplay are there, then it'll make a big difference :)

And yeah, not worried about SE graphics...I didn't explain very well posting at almost 5 am and feeling quite tired.

GENERAL: Pretty-cool-shit-going-on-here-though-I-can't-say-I'm-all-that-excited-about-some-of-it; though-I'm-sure-TMI-will-be-great.

All right, have to reply to myself in a slightly more verbose fashion:

I've downloaded the high-res screenshots of the Special Edition™, and I have to admit, my opinion of the art has gone from "pretty awful" to "staggeringly inept and horrible". I can't believe how awful, clueless and frankly half-assed some of these background paintings are, and most of the character sprites are just amateur in terms of construction, hierarchy and balance. See the screenshot of Captain Smirk's cabin for an example of all of the above.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure we've all seen much worse, but SMI deserves much, much, much, much, much better.

yeah, they look pretty damn ugly. I plan to smear my eyes with Vaseline before each play session.

It looks like there's a lot of good here... except for Guybrush's hair, what the hell is that? He looks like Guile from Street Fighter. Other than that I like the art style they went for. I prefer it to Telltale's, actually...

So... any chance that the Scumm Bar may make a reappearance?

Ok, so now I feel like an idiot. As far as I was concerned, the Scumm bar disappeared... shows you how little I've been frequenting the MI community lately.

I signed on, quite innocently, to see if there was any buzz about the Lego Harry Potter announcement on Mojo.

And then... I suddenly became a man.

I see in a screenshot that the Sam and Max Idol at the Great Monkey Head has been replaced with a Day of the Tentacle one.

I hope they don't edit down to many of these things.

I'm actually dying to know what the hell Cobb's going to say when you talk to him now. Describing LOOM in the past-tense, or something re-written entirely?

Two days ago, I played the ending of MI2, for the third time. I thought, what great aspirations and brilliant notions, have so infused these classics.
After hearing such news, my heart is joyful. Suddenly, it dawns on us. Everything will be O.K.

Been lurking for the better part of a decade, but a golden opportunity to finally post and say.. yay.

It seems that the special edition will have Earl Boen as LeChuck but Tales, on the other hand, doesn't seem to. Am I just hearing things or what is up here?

Yeah, it's definitely Earl Boen in the Remake. Strange that it isn't in the new game. Maybe it was a temporal voice? I hope so, because Boen has LeChuck nailed!

Oh and also, fucking Monkey Island 5 was just announced. Definitely didn't see that coming at all. I'm not sure what there is to say other than: wow, awesome, etc. There's something mindblowing about going to lucasarts.com and seeing Monkey Island on the front page. LEC has to be given huge credit here, even if their endeavor is low-risk (I'm guessing they just licensed MI to Telltale?) Who would have thought that Mojo would actually be making a news post about a new Monkey Island game?

Can you imagine how hard that interview must've been for Dom? I think I would have exploded if I were him.

While I'm excited as hell about both announcements, I'm SO hoping that MI1-SE sells well enough, that MI2 will get an SE as well, as it's the BEST MI-game.

Looks good and yes for PC. But I like the FM-Towns version. I don´t like to improve an old game.

I'm a German. And even I have Nordic origins, I don't look like him. Must be his haircut, I think.

But hey, the way Telltale has interpreted Monkey Island style is awesome! So, I try to forget SE and look straight forward to Tales of Monkey Island! I didn't believe it. No I know it :D

It was a reference to LEC's Indy game where they use "Germans" instead of "Nazis" to keep it "family friendly."

Nazi in the english versions of Indy 3 and 4. And "Deutsche" (German) in german versions. ;)
