Pumpkin Post reports music theft, teases announcement 05 Jun, 2010 / 6 comments

The Pumpkin Post, everyone's favorite blog about Autumn Moon Entertainment, reports that Pedro Macedo Camacho's score for Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island is so good, South American daytime television just can't help but steal it.

Pedro informs us via his Twitter account, that his music has been used in a Brazilian soap opera called ‘Passione’. Sadly, they did this without asking permission. The piece in question is ‘I Smell Adventure’, which you’ll recognize from the Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island soundtrack. You can see this case of blatant music theft in action here on YouTube.

Perhaps the most noteworthy part of The Pumpkin Post's latest blog entry, however, is its final sentence:

On an unrelated note, stay tuned for an exciting announcement here tomorrow!

We'll be there.

No idea the legal contract signed between AME & Pedro. But I would imagine there's areasonable chance AME have some interest in it, having commissioned it.

There are usually 2 royalties in a piece of music, the mechanicals which go to the owner (usually a record company, but in this case, presumably AME) and the composer/songwriter royalties.

Could be worth AME pursuing the music use, maybe via the RIAA - a decent royalty cheque is probably in order.

    Does AME own the music?

By the way, if anyone wants to know what's so good about the music that low-budget Brazilian television stations are breaking laws of ethics and copyright to use it, I'm pretty sure that between Pedro's site and the media section of the official Ghost Pirates site you can hear darn near the whole soundtrack for free.

Now that just cuts the cucumber lengthwise. I may not understand a word they're saying, but that music still sounds awfully inappropriate to that scene. What were they thinking?!
