Psychonauts out of print 15 Jun, 2007, 20:45 / 8 comments

According to Tim Schafer in his writeup of Psychonauts' inclusion on Gametap, Majesco is no longer manufacturing boxed copies of the game. He also approximates (and I believe some of you have been curious about this) that the game has sold 400,000 copies to date. While that number is not record setting, it's pretty good to know that the game apparently had legs despite the dreadful early sales reports. And as Tim notes, the game's lifespan has been indefinitely prolonged thanks to its presence on Gametap, Steam, and other digital outlets.

You know what else is now on Steam? Sam & Max. Fancy that.

Not in Europe though, as THQ is still going. Poor old USA, you always get the short straw.

Hey, wait a minute, they got the damn game months before we did!

I decided to buy Psychonauts as well, finally. Lucky me I live in Europe, I could get it for less than 20 euros (about 20 bucks).

Hey, I better get this before they remove it from the onlinestore then...
One quick question, PS2 or PC? I bet one of them got superior controls, or is it simply a matter of preference?

I have both versions and I think PC is better. But then again I have a gamepad...

Definitely the PC version. You'll want to buy a gamepad, but the PS2 version is significantly inferior to the other two. If you're capable of running the game, there really isn't even a choice.

Well I played it on PC, but I would have prefered to have played it on a TV, on a sofa, with a gamepad.

You'll get better graphics on your PC, but only if your hardware can handle it (and it has *fairly* high specs), and, like most "platform" games, the controls lend themselves to a gamepad.

    Just one opinion, though.

That's fantastic to hear. Last I heard was from Official Xbox Magazine which got their information from the NPD group up until February 2006. (which excludes Wal-Mart).

57,000 copies and it was a crying shame.
