Psychonauts Featured in Banner Ad UGO Article 22 Aug, 2002 / Comments: 10

Oh ho! UGO is also running a for their feature: "The Top Eleven Upcoming RPG/Adventure Games." Psychonauts hit the number two spot(!), and the writer had this to say about it:
Tim Schafer knows how to do character-driven adventure games. The veracity of this statement has been well established by his work on classic titles like Full Throttle and Grim Fandango. Unfortunately, that genre is on the verge of extinction. So what's a designer to do? How about applying the principles that made his past games so great to a format that fits perfectly with the current next-gen console craze: The platform adventure? That's pretty much what Psychonauts is: The illegitimate love child of Mario and Manny Calavera.
Disgusting! But definitely more interesting...give it a read!

I don't want to sound cheeky for pointing this out, but that article with that banner has been around since a few days after E3.

I'm always like, "Damn, sweetheart, you're looking good!" And then DoubleFine's always like "Thank you very much, Mr. Jamer. You're looking to be quite the handsome gent yourself." And then I'm like "Thank you, Double Fine. It is truly a lovely day for awesome games, isn't it?" And then DubFi's all like "Hell yeah! That's what we're in it for. The gamestrosity we're conjuring is gonna blow minds like a spell cast by a level 14 hemogoblin."

Then I don't say nuthin for like 15 minutes.

    Then I reply.

    "Word is borne."

It's 4 am here in the beautiful state of Tejas, and I have forced myself to read what you have written several times over, not fathoming how the hell does HEMOGLOBIN have levels...

    His is a hemogoblin.

I realized that after a while... if I didn't I wouldn't write that post. I would carry on with the throng, pretending that I'm not obtuse and that I perfectly well know of hemoglobin's many levels... sheesh! I am proud of my bis1exia...

A hemoglobin is a hemogoblin, only moreso. It's a fine distinction, but an important one.

Eulogies for the adventure genre are taboo -- or at least bad taste! This guy should burn! Is he saying that God goes by the road more traveled? God doesn?t even go by the road less traveled -- He transcends! Like an Eagle on a pogo stick! Who the foque does this shithead think he is!? Did his thumb hurt from playing some carnage-a-plenty game so he sat down and used his other fingers to bitch how Tetris doesn't have enough gore in it?! I am aware he didn't say that par se, but all his comments about these games in the making (most of which are destined to be good, judging by the teams that are making them) are: Sir, may I kill some more?

That's some fancy words comin from a trusted politician such as yourself, Kingzy. Take a tip from your politico friends and use words that's all little n stuff, cuz I can't handle no "par se" shenaniganary. Now I'm going to emote so you know I'm just fibbin. :)
