PSX2 EMI ? 10 Mar, 2001 / Comments: 27

FGN Onlone have posted rumours that LucasArts plan to bring EMI to the PSX2
Rumors have emerged suggesting that LucasArts is looking to release Escape From Monkey Island on PlayStation 2.The graphic adventure from LucasArts is apparently in "testing" for a release later this year on PlayStation 2, according to Next Generation magazine.

No further details were available, but we hope to receive a comment from LucasArts on the rumor soon.
Hmm.. I can't help but fell that if they did this the control method might improve.... did anyone play SMI on the MegaCD ? - That must have been hellish, EMI however would probably work quite well on a console.

"Ruin the Playtation 2 console"? Hey, Emi is not that bad. I think it will do ok in PS2. Star Wars Starfighter did.

Crap? Well, I havent seen any good games. my lil bro has a DC and it is excellent.
  • spaff on 12 Mar, 2001, 16:26…
    DC rocks ps2 sucks balls
  • scabbisland on 10 Mar, 2001, 21:07…
Broken Sword Leaped from PC to PSX and was a nice conversion, even if it took around 8 hours to download each scene, and I hope that EMI on PS2 earns LEC some profit, but a DC version seems sensible as PC - DC conversion is said to be extremely easily. done

Oh, and Spaff, the term is PS2, not PSX2. Get with the times, dude :)

actually, its the other way round... All Revolution games since Beneath a Steel Sky (that being both Broken Swords & ICB) have been PS to PC conversions... Broken Sword was good (though sometimes illogical)... but Broken Sword 2 & ICB were rubbish... pure tripe...

Many people say that console users are now interested in other types of games besides action, sports, or racing. This is, in my opinion not true. I know 1/2 a dozen people with consoles and probably 90% (if not more) of their games are from the genres already listed. EMI on the PS2 will not do well mostly because thats not what they want to play. Adventure games still only do fair on computers, so I don't think that a traditional adventure would do any better on a console.

Seems LEC is testing the waters with EMI. Note theres also a (gasp) Mac version of EMI on the way.
  • Glottis on 13 Mar, 2001, 15:37…
I dont think Im going to bash how sucky MACs are today

you don`t really need to play the other MI-games to play, and enjoy EMI (It`s even better if you haven`t played them) Lucas Arts made sure to make this game for the masses, not for us fans.
  • Trapezoid on 10 Mar, 2001, 16:03…
Who do you mean by 'LucasArts'? Anyone in particular?
  • Big_Whoop on 10 Mar, 2001, 16:10…
I mean the folks that made EMI. maybe the rest of Lucas Arts wanted this too. I`m not sure.
  • Trapezoid on 10 Mar, 2001, 17:22…
Mike Stemmle and Sean Clarke made EMI... and damn well as far as I'm concerned. Yes, the plot doesn't totally require knowledge of the first games, but do any of the MIs?
  • Mad Lord Snapcase on 10 Mar, 2001, 17:59…
It helps, as with any other sequel. Still, most of the great references in this game are to pop culture rather than previous games. Just as they'll probably lose out on the Ozzy Mandrill joke if they haven't read Bryce Shelley, they'll lose out on some of the MI jokes if they haven't played the earlier games. But they are, like, part of our culture, aren't they? Plus, LucasArts always carries references to other games anyway. Remember the Rubber Tree?
  • Remi O on 10 Mar, 2001, 18:12…
So in essence they should put all the games on one DVD.
  • Big_Whoop on 10 Mar, 2001, 18:11…
if Lucas Arts would have followed the other MI-games, then they should have done a better job with the Monkey Island history. The game can be accepted in the Monkey Island series, all the way to the part where Herman T. discovers his true identity. After that the game is a real PAIN if you knew the earlier games good

The port of EMI won't work!!!!!!!! PSX2 users won't know the story line or anything about Monkey Island. I think that its a bad idea.
