Out: Wak-a-Rat... In: Back-a-Rat 14 Jan, 2004, 21:58 / 11 comments

Adventure Gamers forumer ATMachine pointed out a lovely thing in this month's PC Gamer (US): A one page preview of Sam & Max Freelance Police. The one page preview is part of PCG's look at hot titles to look for in 2004. (This is strangely reminiscent of a particular game's appearance in PCG's "hot titles to look for in 2003" article from last year, but that's irrellevant. Right? Right.)

In the Freelance Police preview, PC Gamer talks to designer/writer Mike Stemmle about the game's genre orientation, plans for after the game has shipped, and of course, Minigames! Max in what sounds like a DDR-style rhythm dance game? Anything called "Back-a-Rat?!" Woot. Check it out.

***** Attention Sam and Max Fans *****

I just happened to find two really cool items for sale on ebay. One is a Sam and Max comic, and the other is a VHS boxset. And no I'm not advertising for something I'm trying to sell, I just thought that they were pretty cool

"Applying everything movies have ever taught them about gangs, they challenge the unruly teens to a dance-off" <-- Funny

Dude. It looks like Sam is bumpmapped!

    Everything sounds lovely so far...

I am really happy that finally we (adventure freaks) can have something to the hunger of adventure games. There hasn't been a good adventure game since Grim Fandango. Sam & Max 2 looks good and the original voices are also there...so let's just hope that the plot will be good enough. I also hope that the game is NOT so short like original Sam & Max.....!!!

Yeah, that sounds good and all, but I hope that this game isn't all Mini-games. This article didn't sound one thing like a point-and-click game. Maybe they're staying away from saying that so they can sell the game to more people and it just so happens to be a point and click, but just keeping that out of the radar.

Mike Stemmle has been working at LucasArts more than long enough to know what a real adventure game is when he says "We dithered around like this for a couple of months before our bosses came in, showed us the sales figures for the original Sam & Max adventure game, and told us to do another one."

    Downloadable cases huh?
  • jmartin on 15 Jan, 2004, 00:11…
Hmm... I'm not quite sure what to think about downloadable cases. Does the main plot tie all these subplots together or would they most likely be just additional material that has nothing to do with the story.

In this interview, Mike Stemmle says the 6 stories tie together into one large main story by the end of the game.
