Oh, it's Monkey Island all right 04 Jun, 2009, 09:12 / 13 comments

If you've been screaming bloody murder over the new Monkey Island games' art-style, well you can now rest your fears. Watch this gameplay video. It's completely, 100% Monkey Island. Then watch the stage demo! And how cool is it that the advertisement at the beginning is about Brutal Legend?

Personally I still would like it if they went in a more CMI-ish direction with the art style, but I have to admit the Telltale team have done a pretty good job with what they have. I've bought it. So should you.

I don't understand this line of logic at all. Curse of Monkey Island was a game, and it looked like Curse of Monkey Island. Tales of Monkey Island is a different game, and it looks like Tales of Monkey Island. You still have Curse of Monkey Island to look at. Why would you just want more of the same? I'd take a slightly sub-par new idea over a re-offered old one any day (not that Tales looks sub-par in any way). I get bored with anything that's the same for too long.

    Well, two reasons.

    1. The characters aren't really true to their old versions.

    2. CMI had a very stylized look that, really, hasn't aged at all. It's one of the few games to accomplish that, alongside Grim Fandango, Ico, Okami, Viewtiful Joe, stuff like that. But will TMI hold the same status in a few years? I doubt it.

    1. Couldn't you say that very same thing about CMI?

    2. That's valid, but subjective. I think a more valid way to put it would be "Tales of Monkey Island doesn't look AS GOOD as Curse of Monkey Island", rather than "Tales of Monkey Island doesn't loos ENOUGH LIKE Curse of Monkey Island".

    loos=look, obviously

I'm looking at the control system... does it look Wallace & Gromit style to anyone, or is Guybrush moving with the mouse?

Oh, and "we may have some returning actors to voice incilliary characters..."

It's been confirmed that the controls are keyboard and mouse, but I think I read somewhere (I can't tell you where I'm afraid) that the controls have been tweaked and aren't exactly the same as W&G.

I'm very happy with TTG's style for the most part. Elaine looks a bit too generic for me (kind of like she did in EMI) but Guybrush is leagues better than the crap LucasArts left us with in EMI. I think they did a very good job, and no way are they going to make everybody happy.

Man, this looks great. This is going to be the longest month of my life.

    It's freaking Guybrush, baby!

Oh that's for sure. Bill Tiller brought a wonderful part to Monkey Island. I think it was the perfect evolution.
That's why they failed everything with the 4th chapter. Making things in 3d is much more cheaper and faster, but you lose that pencil-map feeling. No way. For sure getting back Bill Tiller was going to be the best.
Btw...These news are a revolution for this community uhu ? Hey spaff, if you're still there, I think you need to get more bandwithd to the provider :-)

Let's get back to work fellas !

I'd love to preorder it, but I'll probably get the wiiware versions. Wish I could buy them (or Wii points) direct from Telltale.

i haven't downloaded anything from Telltale store yet, so my question concerning preoder bonus:
Are they shipping to Germany aswell?
  • jp-30 on 04 Jun, 2009, 11:18…
