Obi-Wanx 09 May, 2001, 04:55 / 13 comments

Also returning for second E3 in a row is the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Obi-Wan, and this time he's green! Yep, green means X Box, so fans should start saving now to pick one up when they ship this coming Fall. The game looks like a third person action game, with an original storyline progressing "through an underworld trail of munitions dealers and crime lords-from the lowest depths of Coruscant and dusty Tatooine to the lush city of Theed." Here are three of the features from the product spotlight:
  • The power of a legend is yours as you wield Obi-Wan's considerable Force powers, Jedi agility and lightsaber in 15+ action-packed levels
  • Force abilities include Force attack, push, pull, throw, defend and jump
  • Original storyline brings you face-to-face with a host of new and familiar enemies - ranging from Tusken Raiders and assassin droids, to the evil Sith Darth Maul.
Obi-Wan, theoretically the sequel to the LucasArts classic Jedi Knight, was announced for the PC at last year's E3 show, but was shelved a couple months later due to a lack of focus in the game, and current PCs' apparent imability to run a game so complex.

Horay and if some of the rumors ive heard are correct, then the next game should be an Episode 2 based fighing game like that horrible Playstation one made years ago. The only thing I've learned from LEC's recent announcements is that they've lost confidence in their own skills and are taking to easy way out by porting titles and teaming up with other companies so they can at best release something decent under the Star Wars name. It's really a shame to see a once great company screw its fans over for money. But you all already knew this. By the way, whatever happened to their 50% Stars Wars / 50% Original promise?

In Jefferey's defence - these games must have been in development for a while. Changing it to 50/50 will be a gradual process.

Remi, agreed. It's not like they all sprang up overnight. Some of them were announced months ago (battlegrounds), which means they probably began even before that.

As far as I'm concerned they havent had any NEW game anoucements, with the exception of Batleground which I'm not excited about at all, didnt they already try to make that game like 2 or 3 times already? Rebellion, Force Commander? Makeing anoucements about proting games i dont consider NEW game anoucements in any way. They cant sell to the PC crowd because they have put out TOO many crappy games in the last couple years and we know it. Also the councel crowd is a little less sofisticated than us, they have lower standards. My brother just bought a N64 and so far councels dont match up to PCs in any was shape or form, PCs have better controllers, MUCH more options and better graphics. Yeah so what if the XBox shots of Obi Wan looked good, someone could easily make a picture like that with all the drawing programs out there, i didnt see any things showing me it was an In game shot. So right now, i dont support Lucasarts in any way and i'm verry disapointed in how and what the company has turned into.

They call these "announcements"? At this rate, the next announcement is going to be something that's already out. "Coming five years ago! The Dig!"

Actually, it's very nice-looking. Wonderful graphics. Too bad it's not new... At least we know that the next one is tomorrow (read: today).

Wow, this is so exciting. I can hardly control myself. Another game they feel the need to announce for a second time. Hooray.

At least its got potential to be a really fun game! Shame I won't own an XBox though... only one console will play smash bros 2 and thats the one that gets my money :)

    Testify!

im guessing its more a fact that all Xbox will have one standard set of hardware, so they know everyone will be able to run it. The reason they calncelled it was due to the large variation of PC specs.... sucks really... so far i dont think this years e3 announcements will help a lot of people to gain confidence in LucasArts... EVEN starwars fans..

I totally agree with you. but the images shown doesn't really show any gfx that a standard pc to date wouldn't be able to display. I mean some of the chars look really edgy and the backgrounds seem dull. My personal theory is that lucasarts couldn't face the criticism of the PC peops. so they decided to toss it onto the console audience. Personal hopes for next release: Sam N' Max 2....

yeah you're right :( its a shame really...i was hoping so much for a new adventure game. I mean i still wonder where that GREAT announcement is that they spoke of a month ago or so. its pity...hmmm 2 more announcements to go for sure...lets hope for the best..

Ahh man geeez, I want ObiWan to be for the pc damnit, not for the XBox! They're capitalists cause they know people who have XBox will more likely buy the game than people who have pc (pc-people copy games illegaly). So its once again #all about the money..dummdummdumdumdumdumm# ahh well perhaps itll be released for pc later like they did with MI4 for PS2 amd MAC...
