New Sam & Max game to happen soon? 26 Jul, 2005 / Comments: 16

Ok, so it takes a little - a lot - of goodwill to come to that conclusion from this Gamasutra interview, but anyway... This is what Steve Purcell has to say:
Would I get back into games? Sure. The [Sam & Max] license is back in in my hands now so we'll see what happens in the near future.
So we'll see, I guess. Check out Gamasutra for more.

Steve has the licence, the game was already well advanced before being cancelled - code is therefore somewhere -, and created if I'm not wrong by telltale people, so...
Why not associate all these people to continue the game?

It's a nice idea, and one we all hope for, though for business reasons LucasArts may choose not to turn over their source code to a 3rd party - even those people who worked on the game for them. There is a lot of proprietary code in that engine that they may not wish to put into the hands of a competing company.

One thing that has been discussed amongst fans is LucasArts selling selected game assetts - 3D models, textures, recorded voice, script, plot etc. If Telltale could aquire those things and use essentially the same story to make their episodic games on their in-house engine, that would be a great solution.

I have a strong feeling it won't be purely adventure this time, but as long as the Sam & Max goodness is preserved, I'm excited about it.

This reminds me... wouldn't the voice actors have already read 99% of all the finalized dialog. Could you all run an interview with either TellTale, the voice actors, or Steve on what the games storyline was, and how it was going to end? It'd be like fan fiction, without the cross-overs or lesbians.

Fan fiction without the cross over or lesbians defeats the point.

That's a good suprised, seeing our old heroes back in action, willit be the proper sequel of Hit The Road or will we see another one?
I hope it's not a dodgy sequel, the problem is that they won't be able to put many in jokes in (ie Monkey Island) because of the fact that it's not Lucas Arts. Will the old voice actors return to fill their posts?

Monkey Island had Kings Quest jokes in. I don't see why a new Sam & Max game wouldn't be able to drop a few LucasArts jokes in.

    Let's bloody well hope so.
