Ascovel on 19 Mar, 2011, 21:21…That's intriguing. Your Arthurian legend interests, which you mentioned before, are more serious than I realized.

Gabez on 18 Mar, 2011, 08:26…No, but Wyeth also illustrated 'The Boy's King Arthur' in 1917, replacing previous illustrations by Alfred Kappes. Interestingly enough he replaced the image of Arthur seizing Excalibur from the lake by leaving Merlin in exactly the same posture at the back of the boat, but changing Arthur so that he no longer leans out to get the sword, but waits to receive it with crossed arms. This is, after all, during the First World War.

Gabez on 17 Mar, 2011, 02:34…I love N.C. Wyeth (the artist that the poster is reportedly based on) -- been writing about him in my thesis so this is a strange crossover. At 3am.
