I loved their press release. Good for them to poke fun.

And Max's voice is much better this time around, or I've accepted it, I guess. It's not so bad, but I still don't get enough energy from Sam.

The promo video is great! And the vocal acting is much better than the gameplay videos. I feel like I'm 11 again :D.

Does anyone know which kind of sale makes more money per unit: The contract with GameTap or the individual sales?

I don't think Telltale makes money when you subscribe to Gametap to get the games, nor if Gametap gets money when you buy the games from Telltale. In other words, each company is making their own, separate profit from the games. It might be more complicated than that but I think Gametap largely supplied the game's funding and in turn got to offer the game on their on service and 15 days early, while Telltale will still own the game and be able to sell it for themslves as they see fit. (At least that's what I've gathered and hope to be the case.)

That does make me curious about how Gametap will gauge how "successful" the series is (and thus determine whether or not they fund future seasons). I'm sure they want Sam & Max to attract more subscribers, but how do you know if someone subsribed for Sam & Max? Is the number of new subscribers during the launch period supposed to indicate whether the game's a hit or a flop?

Actually it is a little more complicated than this, and there will be situations (like if someone clicks through to GameTap from an affiliate link on Telltale's site) where Telltale gets a nice credit for referring the customer. We'll definitely be encouraging people who have a strong desire to show support for Telltale and who also want to try out GameTap to do so by clicking through one of these affiliate links.

The program isn't in place yet, but I'm hoping it will be this week, and once it is we'll explain how it works and start promoting it on our site. From the customer's point of view it wouldn't be any different from arriving at GameTap's page in any other way, but GameTap will know they came through Telltale's affiliate link, and Telltale will get a nice profit for it.

Bah, that was an unnecessarily long-winded answer. I should have just said this: Affiliate program is coming soon, and if you want to check out GameTap, it'll be best for Telltale if you do it through this program. Stay tuned.

Okay, the program is described here, somewhat more eloquently.

Well if someone subscribes, and then plays Sam and Max that, I guess, would be traceable. Kinda like website page impressions, but on what games they play. Maybe it can even track how far people get iin the game and sees if people give up 1/2 way through, not to return.

How much money did Gametap give Telltale?

I'm just wondering if I should bother subscribing to Gametap if, in the long run, telltale makes more money if I don't. I want to support them as much as possible, so whichever makes them the most money is what I'll do.

Probably buying the episodes from Telltale is the best way.
  • pheeph on 25 Sep, 2006, 22:03…
I wonder how many times will they use that cancellation reference?

I think that was the first and last major time that joke will appear on the Telltale website.
  • jp-30 on 26 Sep, 2006, 21:03…
Didn't last long! Sad to see it pulled, but understandable...

i thought it was good they removed it! i almost had a heart attack when i saw that headline in my e-mail

I think that's the first time Telltale themselves have used it. Though it's been thrown around the forums with reckless abandon by their visitors since day one.

I think that's the best looking promo so far. Swayed me over to the believer camp.

    Excellent!
