You probably know about the Collector's DVDs of Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People and Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, which are available for purchase from Telltale's web site as is traditionally the case for all their series, which are collected on a disc at the end of their initial, digitally distributed run.

The Collector's DVDs have made their way to Amazon as you can see here and here, but somewhat more interesting is this additional Strong Bad DVD with a slightly different cover art. Also published by Telltale, it has a release date of February 16th and a price point of $19.99. Is it possible that Telltale is quietly releasing their own retail version of Strong Bad that may turn up in stores?

    I'm also thinking it's a 'stripped' (regular) version. It's incredibly risky to put it out now, though, with all these big budget games coming out. The first quarter of the year's going to be unusually busy.

    I really dislike the regular version's cover as well. The collector's one isn't bad, and the Wallace and Gromit one is OK (I find it relaxing to look at), but they don't hold a candle to the Sam and Max ones (or, to a lesser extent, the one Tales is sprouting).

    Then either you don't own the strong bad dvd or you haven't looked at the back of the cover :)

    Well, I technically 'own' it, but I haven't had it shipped over. Even if I got it during free shipping, I wouldn't trust my country's mail service to find their OWN address.

    Yeah, well, of course.. a cheaper version which is stripped for collectables would sound good..

    So yes, I think it's a collectors edition, and one stripped version. Nothing more.

    Well, I'm sure that's what it is, too, but I think the interesting part is the idea that Telltale might be the ones actually putting this retail version out. Although they've been a publisher from day one, I think that distributing their games to brick and mortar stores themselves would actually be a first from them. (Although I think their Surfin' the Highway re-release may have made its into some bookstores, if I'm not mistaken. I personally haven't seen it.)

    Surfin' the Highway is in a lot of comic shops via Diamond Comics, which is a distributor (they buy tons of copies wholesale and then distribute them to stores who order from their catalog). I've seen it at a few comic stores, usually because I go looking (I don't really read comics, so I'm usually dragged there by a friend :))
