Mata Hari website launched, media released 17 Jul, 2008 / Comments: 6

Previously, trying to visit the URL of Mata Hari's official web site from the recent trailer brought you to a nonexistent destination, but now it's finally launched. It's a lovely site (click the flag on the top-right for the English version), and features plenty of new screenshots and concept art, along with the trailer and other things. Best of all, the English version of the game is now confirmed. Be sure to check it out, and let's hope their "Fall 2008" estimation turns out to be more accurate than not.

Also, don't ask me to explain which of the five companies I've seen associated with this game are actually the developer and publisher respectively. Anyone want to clear this up for me?

Don't know exactly, which five companies you mean, but surprisingly I know all of them who are/were included ;)

Mata Hari is produced by German dtp entertainment (also known as digital tainment pool), located in Hamburg, one of the biggest general game companies in Germany and the biggest Adventure publisher worldwide (you might know), and it will be published under their ANACONDA Adventure label. Development first started at German 4HEAD Studios, located in Hannover, which was more or less a label of the real company behind, Ahead Entertainment Software. Ahead came in financial troubles and had to close its doors, so dtp employed their Mata Hari staff to save the project and found an own development division, called Cranberry Production, also located in Hannover, which is similar to the prior 4HEAD. It's still the same team, only the name and the owners have changed. One or two years ago, dtp announced to create an internal development and service team at its headquartes (just known as Studio Hamburg, if I'm right) to make own games and/or help external teams within development processes. That's it :D

Okay, I'm gonna ask the obvious question and hope I don't look like an idiot.

What's the connection here? Why do we care about this game?

Whenever we cover a game that's not by one of the four Accepted Developers, it's because of the otherwise key involvement of certain ex-LEC folks. DeathSpank, for example, is Ron's brain child, so it gets a pass despite being a Hothead release, and Mata Hari gets covered because it was (apparently) completely designed and written by Hal and Noah.

Nifty website. Maybe it means they'll put some decent marketing dollars behind this.
