LucasArts Speaks! (At the GDC) 27 Jan, 2003 / Comments: 19

LucasArts.com pointed out today that many of their employees will be speaking at the Game Developers Conference March 4-8 in San Jose, California. Among the highlights of the conference, the following seminars should peak your interest:

Art and Science of Brainstorming, a full day tutorial led in part by Ron Gilbert, Dave Grossman, and Tim Schafer.

How to Write Good "Bad Dialogue": Cramming Storytelling Into an Action Game, an hour long lecture by Sean Clark and Ryan Kaufman (Full Throttle 2 co-designer).

What Producers Should Know About Audio, a panel discussion led by Clint Bajakian and members of the LucasArts sound department.

Now I know, you're probably not qualified to go or unable to afford the travel expenses. Not to fret. Recordings of the conference are usually made available on audio tapes and CD's. Pretty neat, eh?

Did you guys do a search on LucasArts? There are about a dozen employees doing lectures. There's some John Feil guy from the Full Throttle 2 team doing one, for example.

Yeah, I was just pointing out some of the highlights. There are lots of LucasArts people doing stuff.

Is nothing during my Spring ... oh. I get it. They don't want us. *sniffle* I'll just go cry now! ...And probably buy the brainstorming CD, which better be made! Hell, most anyone could use new suggestions for brainstorming, even if not on a dirrectly related topic.

Why didn't he/you/I check Developer News & EMI?
  • Marek on 28 Jan, 2003, 12:04…
Well, that would set off the bomb.

Oh no, you've revealed the horrible secret of MARMITE!

That's not necessarily true. A certain unnamed staff member has sometimes checked the "all" box for some reason. ? ?
  • Jake on 27 Jan, 2003, 21:34…
    thats just one checkbox though.
  • telarium on 28 Jan, 2003, 07:08…

"Recordings of the conference are usually made available on audio tapes and CD's."
Really? Where? How? When? How much? AHH!!!! I work in, uhh... Twifkak Enterprises, Ltd... yeah. Can I go now?

I think the companies they choose to record these things tend to vary. The prices vary as well. Last year, I think a CD with all of the recordings ran for $599. Or you could choose 10 conferences for only $79 or something.

The Tim / Noah / Ron / Dave conference alone would be worth $79. I'm sooo going to buy it if it becomes available

BTW, Ryan Kaufman... let's hope that guy will be good, cause it sounds like he's Sean's protege, and LEC needs some new designers besides Sean and Mike.

Then keep an eye on this page or this page about three weeks after the conference. Actually, I'll make a phone call today and see if I can get more information.

No, let ME know if you hear anything more. Better yet, let me know if you hear ANYTHING. HA, I win, Marek.
