Lightsaber CMI Easter Egg Revealed! 21 Apr, 2002, 18:03 / 5 comments

The legendary but elusive lightsaber easter egg in The Curse of Monkey Island has finally been exposed. As some of you may know, a few gamers claimed that they experienced lightsaber sound effects while insult sword fighting. However, no one had the slightest idea how to activate it at will.

After some extensive decompiling and searching through the SCUMM scripts by Serge and myself, the trick to this easter egg has finally been exposed. During the ship combat sequence (prior to the insult sword fighting), press Shift+J. After that, you should hear the lightsaber sounds during insult sword fighting.

    actually i was complaingin about it being saber not Sabre. Lucas himself used the correct spelling (sabre) in his scripts.

    I think it depends on the script. I do have the Annotated Screenplays that were published not so long ago, and they are indeed spelled "saber" in these scripts.

    And yeah i remember the post on The Scummbar with the save file at the point that you can play with the light sabres.

    I wasn't sure if the spelling was one word or two, so I checked the manual for Jedi Outcast before updating. I decided to go with a Lucas company spelling.

    Yeah, I made that easter egg once. Didn't know how I did it though.
