Kevin Bruner: The Interview 25 Feb, 2008 / Comments: 26

More from GDC: While hanging out on the show floor, Destructoid made it their business to interview Telltale's CTO Kevin Bruner. The interviewer had to summarize the conversation after the fact due to a tape recorder mishap (Nice going, Gabez), but the results are still quite great:
Can you give us any hints about the two new episodic franchises you'll be announcing in the near future?

The're big franchises, even bigger than Sam and Max. One will be on WiiWare. It's been great to start with relatively small licenses like Bone, then move up to Max, then to these two new ones.
Aw yeah.

This is a pet peeve of mine... why do an interview and not quote the people? As a historian, I hate paraphrases like this.

Maybe they had a very limited time and he just couldn't write that fast?

Do they not have tape-recorders these days?

Why interview someone and not have them say anything?

Man, did you not even read the summary of the article on Mojo, let alone the actual interview? From Mojo: "The interviewer had to summarize the conversation after the fact due to a tape recorder mishap." From the article itself: "Never, ever, ever leave your digital audio recorder in your backpack with the batteries in. You may think it's off, but at some point the contents of your pack will shift around and turn it on and when you take it out to record the interivew you're about to have with Kevin Bruner then all the batteries will be dead and you'll look like a jackass."

    Damnit, you're right.

I skipped over the first part of the article straight down to the questions.

Still, any good interviewer would have TWO recorders going with an interview of such importance....

    ... right? RIGHT?

    /okay, I give up.

"You'll look like a jackass", you say?

A pet peeve of mine is people who comment on articles without reading them.

As a historian, I hate the incomplete use of sources!

It wasn't even that long a news piece!
  • Kroms on 25 Feb, 2008, 04:53…
    "They're" you mean :P
  • Udvarnoky on 25 Feb, 2008, 04:59…
    No?
  • neon_git on 25 Feb, 2008, 11:57…
I think they mean from your quote the article "The're big franchises"
  • Udvarnoky on 25 Feb, 2008, 14:26…
    Yes!
  • Udvarnoky on 25 Feb, 2008, 02:30…
I guess "bigger license than Sam & Max" obliterates my hope for an Eltingville adaptation. :~

And it seems Telltale will never stop being questioned about the LucasArts licenses.

At least they've got it better than Ron Gilbert; I mean he's been getting the Monkey Island questions for years. I always feel bad for him when I see yet another retarded MI comment on his blog.
  • The Tingler on 25 Feb, 2008, 10:48…
Yeah, I think that eliminates episodic Monkey Island discussions for now. Good.

It really is futile to speculate as they could really be anything from Alf to Zak McKracken, but I think we can use some logic here.

If one is going to be a WiiWare game, then it HAS to be a family-orientated license... good god, wouldn't Futurama: The Episodic Series be SPECTACULAR?!
  • jp-30 on 25 Feb, 2008, 18:57…
Well, not Zak McKracken, but maybe, uhh, Zoolander?
  • The Tingler on 25 Feb, 2008, 21:30…
Yeah, I was trying to think of one too. Preferably TV series. Xena was the closest I got.
  • telarium on 25 Feb, 2008, 23:46…
How about that show "Zoey, Duncan, Jack and Jane?" Anyone? Anyone?
  • neon_git on 25 Feb, 2008, 22:11…
Is it definately going to start with a "Z" sound?
  • Zaarin on 25 Feb, 2008, 22:49…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zool - Zool is back, obviously.
  • jp-30 on 26 Feb, 2008, 01:04…
    ...in pog form!
  • The Tingler on 25 Feb, 2008, 23:50…
    Noooooooooooooooo!
  • tabacco on 25 Feb, 2008, 17:06…
Are you implying that Alf Adventures wouldn't be? :)
  • telarium on 25 Feb, 2008, 17:21…
Maybe we should cut that minigame where you eat a cat.
