Indy 4 - First photo stills 28 Nov, 2007 / Comments: 14

Online everywhere (including here) today are the first three official photos from Indiana Jones and the Male Reproductive Organs. They all look fantastic, especially if you pretend that's Sophia Hapgood (or anyone else really) instead of Shia LaBeouf beside our favorite archaeologist. That second picture in particular is awesome - Harrison Ford looks no worse for the wear.

Ironically, while this movie that no one thought would ever get made is at the height of post-production, the Indiana Jones video game that has supposedly been in production for like five years is being treated by LucasArts as if it doesn't exist. Remember the last time we heard anything about Indy's next-gen adventure? Yeah, it was E3 2006, when LucasArts was talking about how Euphoria is going to replace air as what we need to breathe. I know that the game was quietly delayed until around the release of the movie, but geeze, some acknowledgment of its existence after a year and a half would be nice. But anyway.

Update: Someone has posted on Youtube what may be about fifteen seconds of footage from the upcoming Indy 4 teaser trailer (most likely to be attached to National Treasure 2) but the quality's so bad it could just as easily be the end cutscene of Freelance Police. Still, if you're curious. Erm yeah fake

Is our bet still on Gabez? That LucasArts will totally scrap the idea of being original with Indy 2008 and just use the engine to make an Indy IV tie-in game instead?
  • Gabez on 28 Nov, 2007, 20:16…
Sure, but are we betting for again? A pound, wasn't it?

I doubt it - they were still making an Indy game with an original storyline even when they thought an Indiana Jones movie would be made in 2003/2004. It's a reasonable assumption that tie-ins will be added, but as far as starting the game from scratch, I doubt that.

Not exactly start from scratch - they've got graphics sorted after all...

    Correction: aN Indy...

First there was the new Digi Wars trilogy, then came Rocky 39, then came Die Hard 4.0.No, now there's a Rambo Aged 93 coming out and finally a Indy Should Have Quit While He Was Ahead sequel.

If some Hollywood brainiac decides to greenlight Back to the Future Part IV, I'm getting a ticket out of this planet. That is assuming NASA 2 runs commercial flights to Mars.

I'd probably agree that this is all a bad thing if it weren't for the fact they all happen to be superb films!

I look forward to a new Indy. Everyone loves direct sequels to excellent old films (not remakes ??).

Rocky was good, Die Hard was good, Rambo might be good.

New SW trilogy sure as hell wasn't good, but Indy seems to be more of a great movie. Can't wait to see man with the hat (and whip) come back to the big screen.

It's different with Star Wars, though. The comparison would only work if they had made just a fourth Star Wars film, set a while after the trilogy, with Mark Hamill et al. -- but also Star Wars is much less episodic (despite its titles) than Indy or Rambo or Die Hard or Rocky, so I don't think it lends itself to sequels of that kind.
  • MrSneeze on 28 Nov, 2007, 14:13…
True, so Star Wars may not fit the bill.

I forgot to add Terminator 3, btw.

As for Kolzig & Thrik's comments, I agree they were alright films for their genres, but they were subpar when it came to carrying the original's name in their title.

For example, Die Hard could have just been any modern action film. There was only one actual Die Hard moment in the whole film, and even Willis' character didn't feel like McClane.

I had a point with this post, but it would be suitable for a forum post, which is why I'm dropping it here, since this would clog up the comments section. :(

    I SHALL RETURN!

I know. One of these days I'll register... one of these days *looks into the sunset*

It might be cheaper to just not go see a film if you don't want to rather than booking a ticket to Mars.

    Just a thought.
  • MrSneeze on 28 Nov, 2007, 14:05…
That's a thought. Although I hear Mars is wonderful this time of the year.
