Indiana Jones 5 starts shooting in the spring 11 Dec, 2020 / 11 comments

That's soon. But it kind of has to be, doesn't it? The announcement was made by Kathleen Kennedy during today's Disney investor conference whatsit.

Join me in hoping that Lucasfilm has made its first accurate projection for this project, and that Harrison Ford's saga can go out on a high note.

I thought that the entire Star Wars sequel trilogy was absolute garbage, so I hold little to no hope for a fifth Indiana Jones movie being any good with Kathleen Kennedy at the helm.

I'll be fair on the sequel trilogy.
TFA was a decent reboot to reignite fan interest. Fan feedback was that it was too familiar (fair, IMO).
TLJ went off on a very interesting tangent. Fans surely couldn't be upset it was too familiar - actually they were upset it was too different, massive backlash. (can't please all the people all the time)
TROS - Clearly Lucasfilm had no idea what to do and shoved all of the ideas on screen. All of them. Brought the emperor back and made the saga about the Palpatines. What an unmitigated mess. (seriously thought, what was this supposed to be?!)

Shall we open the can of worms that is the anthology movies? :)
    Rogue One - watchable.
Solo - 100% hot garbage. Would be curious to see the original Lord and Miller version to see what this was intended to be. Surely couldn't be any worse/boring than it was.

Then we get to The Mandalorian. Haven't watched S2 yet (waiting for it all to come out before smashing through it), but quite enjoyed S1. It got better with every episode.
On that subject, (and trying to steer the thread back to Indy V) I reckon they'll use similar filming techniques to save on travel in these "troubled times"...

Actually, I didn't mind The Last Jedi, but boy, The Rise of Skywalker/Palpatine was an absolute stinker!

I loved The Force Awakens and Last Jedi, but Rise was just fanboy pandering at its worst. Never want to watch it again.

How about I join you in hoping that it might be the first decent film out of Lucasfilm since their acquisition by Disney?

I guess the sequels are better? (Or maybe 1 gets better if I keep at it?)

Both. 1 gets better and the series gets quite a bit better, too.

A little from column A, a little from column B.

Nice. Filming just before Ford's 79th Birthday. Best to strike while the iron is hot and he's still a sprightly young geriatric man, I guess.

I started playing Uncharted 1. I found it to be sub-sub-sub Indiana Jones. Just awful writing. I pretty hated the main character -- such a blatant attempt to appeal to what a male teenager thinks is a "cool" person. Ugh. I guess the sequels are better? (Or maybe 1 gets better if I keep at it?) Or maybe I'm just a grumpy old git? :)

And there's an Easter egg of finding the remains and/or a painting of Guybrush Threepwood in one of the Uncharted games. Can't recall which, but it is a nice call-out.

Uncharted 4. I'm quite fond of that painting.

You know, if you love these movies so much, the Uncharted games are great...

You know, if you love these movies so much, the Uncharted games are great. No Crystal Skull or Temple-style quality dips (or Orientalist wankery, as I recall), either.
