I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave 16 Dec, 2008, 01:29 / 9 comments

The good old boys who hail from TheRaider.net continue to provide the world with undeserved excellence, most lately in the form of a brand new Hal Barwood interview. All the topics that you could possibly fathom (except for maybe "What the hell was Big Sky Trooper all about?") are covered here in the interview that you are going to be reading. Now.

    "Don Bluth's Circle of Blood"?

I guess the interviewer meant the original Broken Sword game. Don't know who this Don Bluth guy is though.

Don Bluth is a famous cartoon animator, director and producer. He's famous for things like An American Tail, Titan A.E., and the animation for the Dragon's Lair and Space Ace games.

His style bears superficial similarities to that of Broken Sword 1&2, but he wasn't involved with either.

Oh! Thanks. I guess I wasn't a big enough fan of his to remember the name. From what I remember the animators that did Broken Sword were some group that previously did the animated scenes for Tank Girl movie.

"I chafed at the idea of doing another Jones game with Nazis. They seemed stale after much overuse. So I vaulted Jones forward into the cold war and set him against the Russians. Originally I wanted to have Jones go after flying saucers, but word came back to me from on high -- "don't go there." I wonder why not? So I kept the cold war, kept the Russians, but veered the prize away from UFOs toward Babylon and an imagined technological marvel hidden in the biblical Tower of Babel."

I'm always intrigued by how stories are told in games so Hal's comments on the comparison between film and game writing was of particular interest to me. The rest of the interview was alright too, but the questions were pretty standard.

On a completely different topic The new christmas themed icons are great. The telltale and mac ones deserve a special mention I think.

Thanks, though they're the same as last years (with the exception of the Mac one which is new).

I swear Big Sky Tooper is Hal Barwood's secret shame. You can kind of see what they were going for but...yeah.

    Good interview though.

Whereas RTX Red Rock is his very public shame?
