How MI2: SE could look (updated) 03 Aug, 2009, 02:27 / 14 comments

Guy.brush from our forums has published some work he's been playing around with on a theoretical Monkey Island 2 Special Edition.

The thinking behind the project seems to be: "Redrawn backgrounds? Bollocks to that. Why don't we make them 3D and shitz?" -- and that's exactly what he's done. Check out the video, the awesomeness of which speaks for itself.

Screenshots and more information can be found at Guy.brush's web-site.

Rather alarmingly, MTV have interpreted this project as a "quaint indie port" and "a direct (and free) competitor" to LucasArts, made by "crazy Germans."

Hooray for journalism.

JP Update: Those crazy germans known as 'Guy.brush' are back with their second Tech Demo, this time The Voodoo Lady's Hut. Enjoy.

I am absolutely stunned by how perfect this is looking.

The tech and the idea is fantastic, but I would assume lucasarts has all the original assets in (hopefully) better resolution and could attempt to bring MI2 in similar way.

    awesome video, though.

    Incredible.

Hah, what a roundabout way for me to discover they're making an updated version of Beneath A Steel Sky. Hooray!

They're WHAT? Man, it's all go around here recently!

Also, guy.brush's site is one big 404. Has he already been C&D'ed in the face?

More like bandwidth issues, I reckon.

Even as someone who received a cease & desist letter from LEC regarding MI intellectual property, I think MTV might be a bit paranoid overthis one. It's a concept right not a full fangame???

Yeah, pretty much. What are they going to be ceasing and desisting? MTV should really correct their article. I couldn't find a good way to notify them that they should check their facts.

With all of the artist portfolio sites out there containing at least a small amount of fan work or concept, it would be pretty fruitless for them to persecute guy.brush for it.

"Uber" edition can only mean one thing... Crazy Germans!
  • Laserschwert on 29 Jul, 2009, 23:49…
    Zees crazy Germans!
  • Udvarnoky on 29 Jul, 2009, 23:29…
Haha! MTV is almost as corrupt as we are!
  • SurplusGamer on 30 Jul, 2009, 10:28…
I can further confirm that MI2 Uber edition is done, I'm playing it right now and they even got all the voice actors back. How can LucasArts hope to compete when their game hasn't even been announced yet??

    Rolling of the eyes.
