Who says you have to play adventure games to experience great writing and fascinating characters? Not Valve, whose 2007 first-person-puzzle-em-up Portal featured a malevolent robot and some of the best writing the medium has ever seen.
"First person? **** you elTee! This is Mixnmojo!"
Oh shush. It's free until the 24th of May - so if you haven't played it yet, why not give it a try? There's more to life than pointing and clicking, you know*.
And, as usual when I make rambling posts outside of Mojo's remit, I've attached a bonus LucasArts-related fact in order to satisfy the LFN's strict rules: Portal was co-written by Erik Wolpaw, who, as Kroms will relentlessly tell you, co-wrote Psychonauts.
*Disclaimer: Portal does, in fact, feature pointing and clicking. It's kind of integral...

Kroms
It's Erik, dammit! With a K! There's a reason I'm not known as "Croms"! (Though to be fair it has nothing to do with Erik "writes like a golden god" Wolpaw.)
Huh? What are you talking about? ;-)

I initially wrote out this long diatribe, fueled by frustration and resentment I feel about this old website that contained some pretty mean-spirited things and (I feel) undeserved finger pointing. Pretty strongly, it turns out, as it still irks me years later.
The thing with OMM - and I only found-out about the website last year - is that it tends to take games and developers to the mat over anything they do. I love the LA games as much as anyone, but what the Murray guys wrote wasn't just true, it was painfully true; yett, to me, the games were still good despite those flaws, which makes them a little bit more special.

I'm having trouble understanding what this has to do with the history of LSD.
You haven't played Portal then, have you? :)
So I deleted it and simply want to post this:
I like old LucasArts and Sierra adventure games. A lot. I have a lot of respect for the developers of those gems from yesteryear. I do believe those games were the results of different times, when software companies catered towards different audiences.
I also really like the dialogue and writing for Psychonauts and Portal. A lot. Ultimately, I'm really glad that guy doesn't write OMM articles anymore. Onward and upward, I say.

that misc-icon though.. ¬_¬
