Episodic Vampyres: they're not dead, they're undead! Hoho! And they're back! 31 Oct, 2010 / 7 comments

A Vampyre Story has gone episodic. The new game is entitled A Vampyre Story: Year One, and is coming to iPad, iPhone and, later, PC.

Read the official message on the Official Vampyre Story Facebook page:

Mona, opera-starlet-turned-vampire, and Froderick, wisecracking bat, return in this episodic prequel to the award-winning A Vampyre Story. Help the pair explore more of Castle Warg and Draxsylvania™, solve fiendish puzzles, and outwit hideous new creatures.

A prequel! And the Pumpkin Post has the first, exclusive screenshot which we've totally stolen and added to our brand new gallery over here.

If, like me, you like your adventures in little sips of wine instead of giant chugs of beer; or, if, like me, you like your vampyres not sucking figuratively, but literally, and maybe not being lame enough to glow in the sunlight; then maybe you, like me, are the kind of person to want to get excited for this. So get excited! Autumn Moon is back, baby.

Any indication how many episodes are planned?

I've asked Bill Tiller some questions for a Q&A about the new series, and this is one of the questions I asked. I'm now eagerly awaiting the answers, so keep an eye on The Pumpkin Post for that! :)

How is this episodic? Are we getting Year 2, 3 & 4 too?

Year 1 is the name of the episodic series as a whole.

Or is it just a one-off short game to fill the gap until AVS2?

    more of Castle Warg

How is that even possible? Frankly that was what got me bored with the first game, it stayed in the castle for far too long. That and I knew there wasn't an ending to work towards.

Still, good news, especially the sequel.

Excellent! Hope they find a huge and receptive audience on the Apple devices. There was a lot of implicit backstory in AVS1, which opened up with Mona having been in the castle for a long time, so there should be room for a story there. Also, Bill's blog post for the announcement says this:

The Year 1 series will stave off ravenous fans till the official sequel, A Vampyre Story 2: A Bat’s Tale, hopefully ships next fall.
