Drop your vote, Dr Jones! It will be found! You won't! AH HA HA HA 25 Aug, 2010 / 11 comments

There's a vote and general discussion up on IGN right now regarding where people stand on a new Indiana Jones movie. As I write this the vote's currently well in favour of Indy 5, with around 70% of people voting 'yay'.

Well, do you want a new Indiana Jones film?

Mutt was OK, Marion was great, and still the fourth Indy movie was a detestable destruction of everything the previous three stood for. I left the theatre traumatized. A fifth movie, why not, we do need a remedy, but only if George Lucas has nothing to do with it.

I didn't mind Mutt Williams. If they let his character grow, I could definitely see him taking the Indy role after a few more movies.

Do you really want an Indy 13?

I say end it now. I'm a little tired of endless sequels and remakes in movies. Whatever happened to originality? Is it supposed to live and die in the indies?

It's a product of a Recession/Depression. People (for the most part) want to see characters or films that they know, and are less likely to spend money on a new idea. When the economy improves, the sequels will disappear and more new ideas will flow.

It's not that I didn't like Mutt, it's just that they seemed too much like they were setting him up to replace Indy, and that can't ever happen. I wouldn't mind if he got a TV series or something, but I don't want him to have his own movies. I guess they could being him back for Indy 5 if they write him more as a supporting character, like he's supposed to be, and let Indy be Indy.

Yeah, I'd like #5. But I hope Spielberg tightens Lucas' leash a bit more than on #4.

I'd say, I would rather prefer that it is Lucas who tightens Spielberg's leash.

But alright - Spielberg is the director in the end, so either they need to find a story they both feel confident about this time, or Spielberg should have the final say. Even if he'll just make a disgusting, sugary family movie with cameos of all Indy ladies, CG Marcus and Indy's dad.

As long as they're fun and entertaining, I wouldn't mind if they went to part 100. The characters may be familiar, but the situations aren't, and the style has varied quite a lot throughout the Indy movies.

I think a 50's trilogy would work great, with Harrison Ford at the helm. Then have Mutt as Indy take over in a trilogy encompassing the 60's and 70's. Heck, if it remains entertaining, I'd love to see the torch passed on even after that.

The way I see it, comic heroes have been doing this for years with the torch being passed on to a new generation to take up the mantle. An iconic movie hero such as Indiana Jones should be able to endure just as long.

I liked #4 and I liked Mutt, so yes, go for it.

Or I can be a movie snob and complain about about the lack of originality in movies, and how I can only find it in $160.000.000 small budget indies like Inception. ¬

I think it would be fun to see an Indy movie in the style of B movies of the 60s and 70s, which we could get if they follow Shia. If Steven Spielberg is still directing when he's in his 80's, we could even see a pastiche of his own movies, which could be really entertaining. :)

I'm one of those weirdos who actually liked Indy 4, so another one would be great. Just as long as Mutt Williams isn't in it, or doesn't have a big part, it'll be fine.
