Carrie Fisher 21 Dec, 2000, 23:00 / 10 comments

While watching television today, I heard some disturbing news concerning Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia from Star Wars episodes 4, 5, & 6. It seems that Fisher has a chemical imbalance in her brain, causing her to be a manic depressive. She suffers from uncontrollable mood swings, frenzied thoughts, and suffers sleepless nights. For all the American viewers, there will be an article on ABC News: Primetime tonight.

?I have a chemical imbalance that, in its most extreme state, will lead me to a mental hospital,? Carrie Fisher tells Diane Sawyer on ABC News PrimeTime.

It hasn't been a very good past few months for Star Wars fans since Sir Alec Guinness passed away last October.

Yep, Curry it was, superb work if I may say so. Better than Dom, though Dom really wouldn't fit in Gabriel's pants, nor would Curry in Guybrushe's lederhoses. But I still think Jim Cummings rules the voiceover-plane, and the person who did Mosely's VO in GK3 (David A. Thomas Jr.), did a better Mosely than Hamill, though that's just me humble opinion.

QueZTone: Not to forget his superb voice-over as Moseley in Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. Great game, great character. Not as good as Tim Curry or woever did the Narrator (Has to be the best voice-over ever), but pretty decent nonetheless.

BlueTentacle, About Mark Hamill there, He might've not played in many big movies but he sure did some great work in the Wing Commander series (Origin)! So he kind of stayed in space there but when I search for his name at IMDB I see a lot of cartoonish roles as well (voices apperantly (such as the joker in spiderman, a role in batman series, scooby doo, and in full throttle ripburger). So if I would've done what you said; "forget the actual stars" heh then I could've missed that great amount of game series :) Cheers & Merry Xmas :) QueZTone

Bah, it's just stupid how drugs are nowadays so bad. The two Harvard professors who discovered LSD wanted it to be a good cheer up pill that anybody could use, and now they're just bad. And has anyone seen Flash 2 Trickster's Revenge, now that's bad movie, but I happen to like it, so hah! And whatabout the rest of the Star Wars cast. David Prowse was in Japperwocky and Kenny Baker was in Time Bandits, though they weren't very popular. And are you still crying for unca Alec. He didn't even like Star Wars you silly bedwettingtypes, and it certainly wasn't his best role. And guess what Obi-Wan would've been alive in the EPs V and VI, but Sir Guinness didn't want to act the old fart anymore, so he told George (that's Lucas), to write the character dead, but still he had to come back as a dead spirit in the later episodes. So there. And personally, I couldn't care less about some Fisher, she's a bad actor, the only good thing she ever did was of course Leia and that nutty in Blue Brothers. And if you're thinking that I'm a cold hearted bastard, well I ain't, I personally am a great big humongous Blade Runner fan, and when Brion James died in Autumn 1999 I was quite sad actually, and had he done any major roles, nope, but the role in Blade Runner was more than enough to make him a legend. And Harrison Ford was in Blade Runner, and I personally like his acting there much more than I do like him as Han Solo, though Han Solo is a great character and all, but Indiana Jones would kick his sorry arse anyday. And the last words, actors die, actors live, who of them become legends, dunno, maybe if Carrie goes to an asylum and commits a suicide, she shall become a legend, but still, unca Alec didn't have to do anything, except act to get this kind of reputation, which is good. So then again, maybe she should learn to act, and maybe some big director would take her in a big role, so her star would rise again, I mean it's just a little drug addiction, Robert Downey Jr. has a one, but still he is a wanted star. I just think it's stupid that only when the actor is halfdead or dead is he/she respected, and that's just shitty. Oh come on, how many of you respected Alec Guinness trluy before he passed away, well some, but not all, and that is just a stupid attitude, feel bad. Respect them while they're alive, and respect them then when they are not going to the madhouse. But I still wouldn't respect every freakin' actor, Alec's an exception, but I don't really think I could respect some Carrie Fisher very much. A good example is Roy Conrad, the voice of Ben in Full Throttle, did you care about him before it was heard he has a cancer, I don't think so, and I certainly respect him more than Carrie Fisher, even though all I now about him is his infamous voice, which is better than domsopranovoice, but then again I belong with the same crap as everybody else, I didn't care either about him before I saw that heart braking pice of news. So how stupid is this society anyway, respecting the dead, not respectin the alive, and besides, they are just people. Alec Guinness? Just a bunch of atoms really if you really think about it, and atoms are hollow, so he was just bunch of empyness, but still we respect him, don't we? Hah, that's long speech.

Mr. Fossey, I knew she had a drug problem, but it hasn't been until now that she has admitted her condition. Her chemical imbalance may not even be drug related.

All I'm saying that if you've seen her in an interview, the fact she is bi-polar (manic depressive) comes as very little surprise. As for the rest of you... a) LSD was discovered by Albert Hofmann whilst he was working for Sandoz Pharmacuticals in Austria. He discovered it entirely by mistake and was not trying to create a 'happy pill' (which it has never been known as anyway!). b) Saying that LSD caused her manic depression is foolish and uninformed. Most likely her depression was caused by her upbringing (yeah she's got famous parents, but that doesn't always mean the best household for a child to grow up in) or (maybe) her alcohol abuse (which is by far her worse addiction). There are plenty of rumours about her inability to function on the set of Jedi. c) If you want to know anything about Carrie Fisher read her books or see 'Postcards From the Edge' - her semi-autobiographical story of an actress with a famous mother and a dependence on drugs. BTW - Carrie Fisher is also considered an incredibly talented writer in Hollywood. She's easily the second most successful of the cast from SW. Her uncredited 'Script Doctor' work includes: The Wedding Singer, So I Married an Axe Murderer, Sister Act, Lethal Weapon 3 and Hook. (Not nessecarily the best films in the world - but that's why they called her in... she wrote the best bits ;)

Yeah, that's sad! BUt didn't Alec Guinness pass away in August?
  • mr fossey on 22 Dec, 2000, 08:05…
What?? You JUST found this out?? Man, this must have been common knowledge since time began! What about her drugs/alcohol addiction? Seen 'Postcards From the Edge'? I saw her on an interview on UK tv a few years ago and she started crying halfway through... Bad past few months indeed!

Guys, Carrie has probelms for a long time. This is just ONE of the many she has. She has or had been a drug user for many years. She really has never gotten a hold on her problem as far as I know(there was a book about her drug problem and I think she wrote it check amazon for more info). Yeah it's sad, but then again looking at most of the cast of Star Wars,(not including Harrison Ford)their lives are not pretty. Hey even Ford just got divorced. Mark Hammel has been in NO good movies besides star wars and Mask of the Phantasm. Anyone remember Corvette Summer(that was a bad one)? It's best to just watch the movies and forget the actual stars. It's not like the acting in the movies is what made them famous.
