Adventure Games Own 07 Jun, 2002, 17:39 / 13 comments

This week's poll on LucasArts.com closed with interesting results. The poll asked LucasArts website visitors which game genre they preferred. Unexpectedly, adventure games won the poll with 26% followed by RPG's at 18%. Does this mean that adventure games aren't dead after all? Does it mean that LucasArts should focus more original titles in this genre? Or does it mean absolutely nothing at all? Don't ask me, I just work here.

This isn't the first time we're seeing results like this on LucasArts.com. Web polls are never scientifically accurate; adventure gamers probably answer more polls -- or have more spare time on their hands than other gamers, what with the lack of adventure games on the market... :P

Shh! You're going to alert them to our plan!

it's hard, but i must say that youre right.... LEC is trying to put action games fans and adventure games fans together with FT2. But maybe neither of those likes that.

It means that the adventure gamers are the most vocal/frequent visitors of LucasArts.com. Or that people don't know what "Adventure" means any more.
*sees the mob running towards him*
Or that Adventure Games Rule(TM). (phew!)

I'm leaning more towards people don't know what adventure games are anymore. I don't even know. I'm worried that the definition is getting way too broad.

ditto. frankly, to me, the puzzles are as important as (if not more than) the story. it's not that often that my left brain and right brain get a reason to talk to each other.

i think a Star Wars adventure game would be cool (If done right) I'm a big lucas fan and star wars fan and i loved the Monkey island series and the little bit i played of fate of atlantis (if anyone can tell me wher to get the cd id appretiate it) also id like MI5 to be in 2D because it makes it a true MI game and it doesnt have to have bad graphics just 2D.

Concerning Fate of Atlantis, it depends on where youlive. If you live in the US, you can order it here.

    If not, I don't know.

What it means is that us mojo viewers flooded the polls and made them lopsided.

I doubt it. Most Star Wars related sites update about LEC polls also. A few years back they had a poll asking which fan site you read the most, and Mojo and The SCUMM Bar placed far behind the Star Wars sites. I think Mojo and the hosted sites represent mostly a niche. Who knows, maybe Star Wars gamers really like adventures also? If you browse the message boards, it can certainly seem like it.

i tend to agree hehe, but seriously i dont think LEC can ignore this. I think we made it pretty clear what we want from them.

It means that 25% of their games at next E3 will be adventures, or that 50% of their games will have 50% adventure content :). See, if you massage the numbers a bit anything can be true. Full Throttle 2: Action Adventure? Half action, half adventure... the fans get what they want! Even if they dont!
