A Vampyre Story - the demo 17 Nov, 2008, 16:39 / 11 comments

The Tingler apparently found that a demo for A Vampyre Story is available for download right now! I haven't had a chance to play it yet so all I know is that it features both English and German speech. So just get playing!

I might as well take this time to catch up on some general AVS news, all previously supplied by our good friends (and better lovers) at The Pumpkin Post. There's a new gameplay video from the game available from Adventure-Treff. It features a German narrator but the actual in-game voices are in English.

Then there's some confirmation about the game's release. The game (which, as far as I know, is available in Germany right now) will hit the UK and France on November 24, and the US "soon after." Additionally, the game will be available in about a week or so from digital outlets GamersGate, GameTap, and Metaboli.

The English VAs are really shoddy. The German ones sound pretty good.

You know what would be fantastic? That games like this, where German or French or something else is its first language that you can play with with foreign language Voice Acting, but get English Subtitles. That would just about be the greatest thing ever.

Personally, this demo didn't wow me. It was buggy, the puzzle was rather illogical and was solved only through random object use. And the dialog was droning at best.

Still will probably buy the game for lack of alternatives. And it was artistically pleasing at the least.

The constant and pointless narration is getting on my nerves (eg. "I'm going to put this here" "I'm going to do this to this")

Also, this thing is buggy as hell. It might be Vista, but then that shouldn't even be an issue these days (no matter what you think of Vista, things should work with it by now).

I've got stuck quite easily - is that a good thing? I don't know.

The one thing I don't like is Mona's voice, it's far too whiny. Froderick I love already though.

I'm stuck in Shrowdy's room, I think I may have missed a cutscene when I first tried to leave - the door was suddenly locked after a lengthy black screen.

I've done something with the door that I thought would allow a bat to fly through, but I can't seem to do that with myself or Froderick.

And yeah, Mona's voce isn't as sultry as I expoected, but I'll no doubt get used to it in due course.

I like the 'remeber the inventory item for later' thing.

Ahh, reinstalled with the dirextx files, now the cutscenes show up and things are a bit easier to figure out.

    Nice puzzle!

Couldn't understand a damn word Shrowdy said though, the cutscenes could do with subtitles too.

There were some bugs when i played it but only with Windows Vista. It worked fine with XP. the bugs where that it was not possible to suck up the water with the bellow and some other ones.

Also, isn't the game supposed to be out now in Germany? Amazon seems to have it postponed until the 19th.

It looks good, but the writing isn't that great, really (what samples I can see of it anyway).
